    Police are warning delivery drivers in Hull to watch out for thieves targeting their vehicles as they make their rounds.

    Officers say there have been a number of incidents in the city recently, including sacks of mail being stolen from Royal Mail delivery vans.

    It's believed the perpetrators use motorbikes, which allow them to make a quick getaway after snatching items.

    Humberside Police are appealing for help to find a missing man.

    Andrew Wilson was last seen on Beverley Road in Hull on the afternoon of Monday 4 December carrying a large black suitcase.

    Mr Wilson is around 5ft 7ins, of slim build and with dark hair, and is said to have previously lived in Scunthorpe.

    Lincolnshire's non-emergency ambulance service has suffered a public humiliation after a health watchdog passed a vote of no confidence in it.

    The Lincolnshire Health Scrutiny Committee has been examining the work of private firm Thames Ambulance Service, which provides patient transport services across the county.

  5. Rawcliffe Bridge could have weight restrictionpublished at 13:18 Greenwich Mean Time 13 December 2017

    There are fears a weight restriction could be placed on Rawcliffe Bridge, which crosses the Dutch River west of Goole.

    The bridge closed for an inspection in October and has remained shut ever since.

    East Riding of Yorkshire Council says defects have been discovered and more work is needed to check the bridge's safe load capacity.

    No date has yet been set for the bridge's reopening but the authority is promising to release more information in the new year.

    Parliament's heard that Brexit will be an "opportunity" for fishing communities on the Humber.

    The chief executive of Grimsby Fish Market has been giving evidence before a Commons environment committee.

    Martyn Boyers says the region's faced tougher challenges than leaving the EU, such as "The Cod Wars" of the 1970s when the UK sparred with Iceland over fishing rights in the North Atlantic.

    Lincolnshire's non-emergency ambulance service has admitted it is letting patients down.

    Thames Ambulance bosses have been appearing before the county council's health watchdog.

    They've told councillors on the health scrutiny committee they now have 'patient experience officers' to handle complaints.

  8. Brexit Secretary tries to calm UK exit fearspublished at 12:16 Greenwich Mean Time 13 December 2017

    The Brexit Secretary and Haltemprice and Howden MP, David Davis, has written to fellow Conservative Members of Parliament, assuring them there will be a vote on the final terms of the UK's exit from the European Union.

    He hopes to head off a rebellion by Tory MPs who are threatening to defeat the government over its Brexit plans.

    The UK is due to leave the EU in March 2019, and the EU Withdrawal Bill is a key part of the government's exit strategy.

    The former Attorney General, Dominic Grieve, who's leading the revolt says "the government should show greater flexibility in the way it approaches MPs raising legitimate issues".

  9. Controversial new benefit system begins in countypublished at 11:50 Greenwich Mean Time 13 December 2017

    Today is the day that Universal Credit is rolled out in North East Lincolnshire.

    It's designed to combine 6 benefit payments into one monthly payment but critics say the first payments can take up to six weeks to come through, which is driving people into debt and arrears.

    The government says it has made improvements and the system gets people back into work quicker.

    North East Lincolnshire's Citizen's Advice Bureau has highlighted its own concerns.

    The University and College Union says it's concerned that jobs could go at Hull College.

    The institution has been struggling financially for a few years but the new chief executive says things are moving forward with a "restructure" of the college group.

    In a statement, the college says a report has found that current staffing is unaffordable, leaving no option other than to find a fit for purpose institution that serves the community.

    The head of Grimsby Fish Market, Martyn Boyers, will give evidence today during a Commons debate about the future of UK fisheries.

    The Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee is examining how potential changes to trade between the UK and the EU will affect consumers and things like seafood processors.

    Figures for August to October show an increase of 4,000 in the number of people out of work in our region to 131,000.

    Nationally, however, unemployment has fallen by 26,000 to 1.43 million, the lowest since 1975.

    A new screening service could prevent hundreds of heart attacks across Yorkshire and the Humber.

    Relatives of people diagnosed with genetically high cholesterol can now be tested for the faulty gene.

    The British Heart Foundation is funding four specialist nurses across Yorkshire and the Humber to provide testing and once diagnosed the condition can be easily managed.

    Conservationists on the east coast say they are concerned about new data suggesting plastic waste in seawater is harming bird colonies.

    The kittiwake (pictured) is the latest species to be placed on the so-called red list of birds suffering a decline in population.

    Colonies in Yorkshire are said to be healthy but experts are closely monitoring bird numbers.

  15. Police team to visit 'burglary hotspot' in Hullpublished at 08:40 Greenwich Mean Time 13 December 2017

    Humberside Police, the fire and rescue service, and other partners will be visiting the Garths area of Hull today.

    It's a part of the city that's been identified as a "long-term burglary hotspot".

    The team will be there between 09:00 and 16:00, offering advice to residents on how to better protect themselves.

    It's part of a year-long initiative which has seen 451 residents visited.
