    A 77-year-old woman has had jewellery and her handbag stolen in a distraction burglary in East Yorkshire, it has emerged.

    She was distracted by two men who were searching through a skip, but it's believed that while she was telling them to go away, a third man got in to her home.

    One of the men is described as in his 20s, thin and clean shaven, with dark scruffy hair.

    Humberside Police have provided an e-Fit (above) for the other man she spoke to.

    It happened in Cottingham, East Yorkshire on 1 December at around 2:30 GMT.

    The Foreign Office is working to get a Hull woman moved from the Egyptian prison where she has been jailed for smuggling painkillers.

    Laura Plummer (pictured) was sentenced on Boxing Day to three years for possession of illegal painkillers.

    She was found to be carrying almost 300 Tramadol tablets in her suitcase, a painkiller which is legal on prescription in the UK but banned in Egypt.

    She's been taken to what is claimed to be one of Egypt's worst prisons.

    Hospital trusts in the region are making more money from charging patients, staff and visitors for parking.

    Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust made £2.28m, an increase of £66,000 on the previous year.

    Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust made £1,575,998.

    That's almost £22,000 more than in 2015.

    Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust also charges for disabled parking.

    Half of trusts in England charge for disabled parking.

    Two youths on bikes snatched money from the hands of an 89-year-old man who had just used a cash machine outside a supermarket in Hull.

    The Hull actor who set up a theatre company to stage Shakespeare in a Yorkshire accent says he's disappointed the company's failed to get funding for future work.

    Barry Rutter, who created Northern Broadsides 25 years ago, says the news has been a huge blow.

    He'll step down from the company at the end of March.

    A man who suffered serious burns in Hull has died.

    Emergency services were called to Thanet Road around 20:00 GMT last night.

    No one else was injured but the man died at the scene after suffering serious burns.

    Police are now investigating the circumstances of the death.

    There's growing concern that someone could be seriously hurt or killed in Hull's derelict Lord Line building.

    The council and police say Manor Property Group, which owns the former trawler company offices, hasn't put in sufficient measures to keep trespassers out.

    An application to demolish the building was rejected recently.

    Manor Properties didn't respond when contacted by the BBC.

    Drivers of four wheeled vehicles are being branded as hooligans for driving over ancient grass covered tracks in East Yorkshire.

    Garton Parish Council says they're causing damage to paths designed for walkers and horses.

    Villagers are calling for green lanes to be gated off.

    Councillor Steve Possell from Garton on the Wolds (pictured) says it's "vandalism".

    The lawyer of a Hull woman jailed in Egypt after taking almost 300 painkillers into the country says she will appeal against her sentence.

    Laura Plummer has been transferred to Qena prison in Upper Egypt.

    Her lawyer, Mohamed Othman, says he will also appeal the prison move and request that she is imprisoned close to Cairo.

    Ms Plummer was sentenced to three years in prison.

    She insists they were for her boyfriend (pictured below) who has a bad back and was genuine error.

    Hull 2017: UK City of Culture

    The Arts Council England has described Hull's year as UK City of Culture as an "unmitigated rip-roaring, awe-inspiring, life-enhancing success."

    The UK's second-ever City of Culture tenure has been widely praised, especially for how it has included so many local people.

    It is estimated to have provided an economic boost for Hull set to exceed the bid's forecast of £60m.

    The year-long programme began with Made in Hull - which bathed many of the city's best known buildings in light installations - and drew more than 342,000 people over seven days.

    And the year culminated with the UK's best-known arts award - the Turner Prize - being awarded in the city, with the prize exhibition hosted in Hull's fully refurbished Ferens Art Gallery.

    A £50m pound plan to ease congestion on East Yorkshire's busiest road has been submitted to the government.

    More than 30,000 vehicles use the A164 near Beverley every day and there's often severe congestion where it meets another busy road - the A1079.

    The council has put forward a solution following a public consultation and asked the Department for Transport for funding.
