  1. Burst water main closes three schools in Beverleypublished at 11:48 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2018

    A school in Beverley says a burst water main which has forced it to close for the day is causing disruption to the children.

    Angela Nicholl who's the head teacher at St John of Beverley Primary School says the children only started back at school yesterday.

    St John is one of three schools affected by the water leak.

    The head says they had to close because the school has run out of water, meaning toilets can't be flushed, children can't wash their hands and school lunches can't be made.

    Swinemoor Primary School is also closed and St Nicholas Primary is closed to all students apart from those in year six.

    Flemingate remains closed between Spark Mill Lane and Holme Church Lane while repairs are carried out by Yorkshire Water.

    Police say they are targeting "specific individuals" in a raid on a traveller site near Brigg this morning.

    Detectives say they are at the River View traveller site on Mill Lane, Brigg, (below) "conducting a series of warrants in connection with an increase in crime in Brigg, Scunthorpe and surrounding areas".

    A spokesman said: "We know that the vast majority of the residents at River View are law abiding and hard-working and are integral members of our local community.

    "However, it is important to understand that we have information on specific individuals and it is those who we are looking to arrest and question in relation to reported crimes."

    Horses running loose have closed a cycling track in Hull.

    The state of the art cycling circuit was opened less than 6 months ago but now un-tethered horse are roaming on the land.

    Cycling clubs in the city says it's because of poor fencing at the site next to Ennerdale Leisure Centre.

    Hull City Council say fencing is already in place around the cycle track and that they always try to work as quickly as possible with others to follow procedures and start any legal proceedings that are necessary.

  4. Police raid at traveller site in Briggpublished at 10:22 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2018

    Police are searching a traveller site in Brigg after an increase in crime around the area.

    Officers are currently at the River View traveller site on Mill Lane.

    They say investigations have identified key people believed to have links to the site and that they have warrants to gather evidence and make arrests.

    Humberside Police say they know that the vast majority of residents there are law abiding and hard working and are looking for specific people in relation to a number of reported crimes

    Part of Flemingate in Beverley is closed this morning because of a burst water pipe.

    The area affected is between Spark Mill Lane and Holme Church Lane. A diversion is in place.

    Engineers are working to fix the water main.

    A number of homes in the area have no water or low pressure.

    Yorkshire Water says it's carrying out emergency repairs but adds that the road may have been seriously damaged. This will remain unconfirmed until the main is fixed.

    The work is likely to be ongoing throughout today.

    A Hull man has become the new president of the Fire Brigades Union.

    Ian Murray is the 13th president in the 100 year history of the union.

    Murray joined Humberside Fire and Rescue in 1994 and worked at both West Hull and Hull Central fire stations.

    In 2010 he became a full-time union official for the Yorkshire and Humber region and from 2014 became the FBU's vice-president.

    He was elected president after Alan McLean - who held the post since 2010 - retired.

  10. Plans to raise East Riding's council taxpublished at 17:30 Greenwich Mean Time 8 January 2018

    You'll find out if your council tax is going up by almost 6% in the East Riding when the council discuss the proposals next month.

    It is looking at a general increase of 2.99% as well as an extra 3% for adult social care.

    That means if you are in a band D property your council tax will go up by almost £80 a year.

    If it's given the go ahead it will raise over £9m for the council who say it is facing cuts of £40m from its budget by 2021.

    The front of the old BHS building in Hull has been blocked off as part of measures to make the area safe.

    Hull City Council say asbestos was being exposed as some of the cladding was coming away which is why they put up the hoarding, in agreement with the building's owners.

    They council also adds that it is working with the homeless charity Emmaus to find accomodation for rough sleepers who had been camping below the canopy.

    A section of one of Hull's busiest roads will be closed from today for repairs.

    The road works on Beverley Road will take place during off-peak times and overnight until 16 January.

    The area affected is from the Queens Road junction to the Cottingham Road junction.

    Diversion signs will be in place.

    Lincolnshire's paramedics will be specially trained with how to deal with a deadly infection after a successful pilot.

    A trial in Scunthorpe and Grimsby saw 20 paramedics trained to administer an antibiotic injection to their patients who were assessed as having possible sepsis.

    90 patients received the treatment at the scene of the emergency, saving an average of 70 minutes time.

    By training other paramedics with the same skill, it's hoped it will save time and lives.

    A man who was charged with murder after a woman's body was discovered at a house in Scunthorpe has been remanded in custody.

    Tamara Sinakova, 61, was discovered at a property on Tamar Walk on Friday evening.

    Rojs Avaliani, 36, will appear at Hull Crown Court on Wednesday.

    A flood warning is in place in Bridlington this evening.

    That means flooding is expected and immediate action is required.

    Wave over-topping is expected because of strong winds in the Harbour Road and North Pier between 20:30 and midnight tonight.
