    A company whose building was taken over by squatters in Hull over Christmas says it has agreed a plan with the people staying there in order to help them into more secure accommodation.

    MRC Estate & Letting Agents had planned to turn their property on Baker Street into new offices, but suffered a setback when a group called Activists for Love moved in.

    The company says it is now working with the group and also a community project called Raise the Roof in order to set up a new support centre to help the people currently in Baker Street.

    There was an explosion at the Appleby coke ovens yesterday but nobody was injured.

    British Steel says it is working with the emergency services to find the cause.

    People stood looking at the Fisherman's memorial.

    People will gather to mark the 50th anniversary of one of the worst disasters in Hull's fishing heritage today.

    Three boats sank in heavy seas and 58 men were lost in the triple trawler tragedy in 1968.

    Wreaths will be laid at the city's Fishermans' memorial this morning.

    Some of the worlds largest batteries could be coming to Yorkshire.

    Drax Power station near Goole is looking at switching from coal to gas and is asking people what they think of the idea to install huge batteries.

    The plans go on show in Selby later this month and a consultation continues until the end of February.

    Fewer people are listening on MW and are switching to alternatives such as FM and digital radio, as well as to Freeview and online.

    The BBC says it needs to assess which technology represents the best value for money.

    The transmitter will stop broadcasting from noon.

    A prisoner who attacked a guard at HMP Humber has been jailed for 16 months.

    CCTV footage of the incident shows Reece Bayliss, 25, hitting the guard with an improvised weapon before being wrestled to the floor and restrained by security staff.

    Bayliss, of Glenhills Boulevard, Leicester, was sentenced at Hull Crown Court on Monday after he admitted charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, common assault and criminal damage.

    According to reports he was serving a sentence imposed in 2016 for drugs offences.

    A Grimsby man's been in court today charged with robbery and possessing an imitation gun, external.

    Kye Green, who's 29 and of no fixed abode was arrested in connection with a robbery at a shop on Broadway in Grimsby on Monday and a takeaway in King's Road in Cleethorpes the previous Friday.

    He's also been charged with possessing an imitation gun, stealing a car and an attempted robbery in Weelsby Street in Grimsby in December.

    Green was remanded into custody after appearing at Grimsby Magistrates Court today and will face trail at Grimsby Crown Court in February.

  11. Investigations continue into Buckton deathpublished at 17:33 Greenwich Mean Time 10 January 2018

    The police say they are continuing to investigate the death of 52-year-old Carol Camm in Buckton near Bridlington.

    She was found dead in a house on Main Street in Buckton before Christmas.

    On New Year's day a 56-year-old man, who had been questioned about her death and was believed to be her partner, was found dead in the same property.

    Detectives say investigations are continuing.

  12. Update: Incident at British Steel in Scunthorpepublished at 17:07 Greenwich Mean Time 10 January 2018

    British Steel in Scunthorpe say there has been a fire at their Appleby coke ovens at around 12:50 today.

    Seven fire engines and two support vehicles were called to the site after reports of an incident.

    The company say everyone is accounted for and no one has been injured.

    British Steel say their on-site emergency teams, worked with fire fighters to rapidly and successfully bring the incident under control.

    They add a full investigation is underway into the cause of the incident.

    Figures show more than a million fewer people visited Hull city centre during the last three months of 2017, compared to two years ago.

    The numbers have been measured by cameras positioned on some of Hull's main shopping streets.

    The city centre manager Kathryn Shillito says the cameras won't have picked up everyone who came for City of Culture events but admits she'd have liked to have seen more people use the city's shops.

  14. More on Scunthorpe steelworks incidentpublished at 16:02 Greenwich Mean Time 10 January 2018

    Humberside Fire and Rescue say they are at British Steel in Scunthorpe dealing with an incident.

    They haven't confirmed if it's an explosion but said there was a build-up of gas and an ignition of some kind at the Appleby Coke Ovens.

    Earlier British Steel reported that there had been an incident but said everyone was accounted for and there are no reported injuries.

    A fire service spokesperson said seven fire engines and two specialist support vehicles are at the scene to isolate the gas and turn it off.

    People have been tweeting about the incident.

    Christian Ashton tweeted: "The bang was so loud, even Liberty Street shook".

    Scunthorpe Dad tweeted: "Apparently there's been some sort of explosion on the steelworks - shook the pulpits, cabins and buildings of the nearby rolling mills."

    The Deep in Hull is celebrating after successfully raising a baby Mediterranean jellyfish for the first time in the UK.

    The Deep was sent the egg-like polyps from L'Oceanografic in Valencia in Spain where they have managed to develop them to adulthood.

    They are usually found in the Mediterranean and glow in the dark!

    Emergency services have been called to British Steel in Scunthorpe today.

    It follows an incident at the Appleby Coke Ovens at around 12:50 today.

    British Steel say there are no reported injuries and everyone working in the area at the time has been accounted for.

    Council tax in North Lincolnshire will go up by at least 3%.

    That's for the adult social care precept which pays for services to look after older and disabled people.

    But the council still has to decide how much they will put the general council tax up by, which could be an additional 3%.

    North East Lincolnshire, Hull and the East Riding will all also add 3% to our council tax bills for adult social care.

    Hull are also looking at a general rise of 1.99%. North East Lincolnshire 1.98% and the East Riding 2.99%.

    Well we've now been told they have been found safe and well.
