    Work on a new extension of the Woodford Leisure Centre in Hull is almost complete.

    Builders have been working at the site on Holderness Road for the past 9 months.

    Around £8m has been spent on a new swimming pool, sauna and steam room, improved changing facilities and a café.

    The French tyre-maker Michelin is to take over the Hessle-based engineering company Fenner in a £1.3b deal.

    The East Yorkshire firm makes conveyor belts and reinforced polymer products for the mining and industrial markets.

    Last year Fenner brought in over £650m in revenue and Michelin say the deal could help them strengthen their position in the mining markets.

    Hessle Town Hall could get a £750k makeover to bring the building back up to scratch.

    At a meeting last night, the town council agreed that the 120-year-old building needed new windows, flooring and heating.

    A consultation will now take place before a final decision is made.

    Teams from the Football League have been showcasing the work they and their charitable trusts carry out during the English Football League annual community day.

    Players from Scunthorpe United and Grimsby Town are working with schoolchildren in their area.

    Meanwhile in Hull, students of the Tigers' Trust, have helped raise funds to renovate the city's famous Adelphi music venue, the Adelphi. Here are two of them with Hull City's Stephen Kingsley:

    Parents of children with Down's syndrome in Hull are being offered more specialised advice and support.

    Hull Clinical Commissioning Group has worked with the Hull charity Downright Special to provide the service.

    It's being launched today to coincide with World Down's Syndrome Day.

    It's hoped it will make parents feel they have a voice and make health professionals more aware of Down's syndrome.

    The improved paving in Hull city centre is to be extended to the area around the new Hull Venue.

    New paving being laid outside Hull Minster.

    Excavation work will begin next week around Myton Street and Anne Street, before moving on to Carr Lane, South Street, Paragon Street and Chariot Street.

    UKIP has been ordered to pay £175,000 in legal costs over a defamation case brought against an East Yorkshire-based MEP.

    The party was told to pay towards costs incurred by Rotherham MPs Sir Kevin Barron, Sarah Champion and John Healey, (pictured left to right).

    It follows a judgement made last year, when Yorkshire and the Humber UKIP MEP Jane Collins (pictured below) was told to pay the three Labour MPs £54,000 each in damages following remarks she made about the Rotherham child abuse scandal.

    Illegal puppy breeding is being investigated in East Yorkshire.

    East Riding of Yorkshire Council is looking into five cases and is warning people to make sure they buy dogs from reputable breeders.

    The council say unlicensed breeders are not subject to legislation that checks the welfare of the dog, makes sure they are free from disease and limits the number of litters a female can have.

    Puppies cannot be sold before they are eight weeks old, must be micro-chipped and should come with the right documentation.

    You're being advised to check the seller's licence before you buy a puppy and if you've got any suspicions to report it to East Riding Council, external.

    An extra 90 doctors a year are to be trained in Yorkshire as part of government plans to expand the number of medical school placements, it's been announced.

    They'll train at the Hull York Medical School, which is based at the University of York.

    It means the school will now train 220 doctors a year - that's up from 130 a year.

    If you use rail services run by train operator Northern, be aware you're likely to face cancellations next week as more strike action is due to take place.

    The RMT rail union has confirmed its members will walk out on Monday and Thursday.

    They're in dispute with the company over driver-only-operated trains.

    Large numbers of marine creatures have been washed up onto beaches along the east coast again following the recent bad weather.

    More than 1,000 live lobsters have been saved near Barmston beach this morning, but many more have been found dead.

    Earlier this month, thousands of lobsters were returned to the sea by shell fishermen from Bridlington after they were left stranded on beaches.

    Fishing crews undertook a huge operation to save a large number of young and breeding lobsters which otherwise would have died.
