  2. New CT scanner installed at hospitalpublished at 11:15 Greenwich Mean Time 20 March 2018

    A new £600,000 CT (Computerised Tomography) scanner has been installed at Grimsby's Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital.

    The scanner is used to diagnose cancers, strokes, internal injuries and broken bones.

    This new machine will replace the one that was installed in 2009.

    Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Trust say they have also secured funding to install a new CT scanner at Scunthorpe Hospital.

    That one is expected to be in operation from early 2019.

  3. Dog walkers warned to avoid toxic palm oil on beachespublished at 10:52 Greenwich Mean Time 20 March 2018

    A clean-up operation will continue today to remove palm oil from parts of the Lincolnshire coast.

    The process began yesterday around Cleethorpes and will carry on today near Mablethorpe.

    North East Lincolnshire Council say it isn't dangerous to humans but can be toxic to dogs and are urging pet owners to be vigilant.

  4. £20m Grimsby cinema and restaurant plan takes step forwardpublished at 10:30 Greenwich Mean Time 20 March 2018

    It has been revealed Cineworld will run Grimsby's new cinema.

    It is part of a £20m plan to bring a 9-screen cinema and 7 new restaurants to the town.

    Freshney Place Shopping Centre managers have signed a deal with North East Lincolnshire Council for a new leisure development, securing Cineworld as the operator.

    The development will be an extension to Freshney Place in the town's Riverhead area which will be regenerated by the council.

    It's thought the plans will create around 350 jobs while it is being built and a further 130 long-term roles.

    The work is due to start in the next 6 months and will be finished towards the end of 2019.

  5. The real cost of potholespublished at 09:59 Greenwich Mean Time 20 March 2018

    Nearly a billion pounds is needed to fix potholes on roads across Yorkshire and the Humber.

    That's according to a report out this morning from the Asphalt Industry Alliance.

    It says road users claimed £3m in compensation last year.

    Nearly 190,000 potholes were filled-in across Yorkshire and the Humber last year, with the report saying councils in the north have less money to spend on road repairs than elsewhere in England.

    The report also says it would take 14 years to get local roads across England and Wales back into a reasonable state.

    Police are trying to find this man after a church in Hull was broken into.

    It happened at Jubilee Central on King Edward Street overnight on Saturday 17 March 2018.

    Damage was caused to the inside of the building and some items were stolen.

    Police are appealing for information, external.

  7. More children report hate bullyingpublished at 08:59 Greenwich Mean Time 20 March 2018

    Reports of hate crime against children in our area have almost doubled in the last two years.

    Humberside Police say there were 68 incidents of children suffering bullying because of their race or faith last year.

    The NSPCC is concerned many children are suffering in silence.

    Sergeant Nick Bunker from Humberside Police says it's important this type of abuse is reported:

    Figures would suggest only 23% of hate crimes are reported to the police. We'd urge people to report abuse like this, so we can look at what we can put in place to try and stop people being targeted because of their race and religion."

  8. Controversial wildlife centre opens at Spurnpublished at 08:26 Greenwich Mean Time 20 March 2018

    A new visitor centre at Spurn Point in East Yorkshire is officially opened today.

    It has been delayed by planning rows, with critics concerned about the visual and environmental impact.

    The Yorkshire Wildlife Trust says the centre will open-up the story of Spurn to many more people and wishes it had more support from the community.

    The centre opens to the public on Friday.

  9. Hedon village hall firepublished at 08:19 Greenwich Mean Time 20 March 2018

    Firefighters were called to a fire at a disused village Hall in Hedon, near Hull last night.

    The fire lighting up the night sky behind houses.

    Crews were called around 19:00 to the fire on Princes Avenue.

    Three fire engines were needed to put it out.

    Monkey puzzle trees were first introduced in Britain in the 19th Century and every stately home aspired to have one.

    The tree in Sewerby Park was planted in 1869 and was about 65ft (20m) tall before it came down at the weekend.

    However, the manager at the hall says staff there have anticipated this event for some time:

    Police helicopter crews flying over Yorkshire and Lincolnshire are now using protective eyewear to protect them from laser attacks.

    Three years ago,Yorkshire had the highest number of attacks in the UK, despite it being a criminal offence.

    Hull Minster has been officially reopened this morning following a multi-million pound refurbishment.

    The main doors to the Minster had been closed to the public for two years while major works were carried out inside the 700 year old building.

    In a ceremony held today the Reverend Canon Dr Neal Barnes and Hull City Council Leader Councillor Steve Brady opened the great West Door, revealing the new renovations to the public.

  15. Serial killer report 'will be damning'published at 15:25 Greenwich Mean Time 19 March 2018

    The relatives of serial killer Stephen Port's victims have been told a report into the Met Police's initial response to the murders "will be damning", according to solicitors.

    Port killed four men including 23-year-old Anthony Walgate, from Hull with fatal doses of a date-rape drug. He was given a whole life term in 2016.

    Earlier this year a landmark ruling held Met Police liable for serious failings in investigations.

    The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) is looking at the Met's investigation into Stephen Port.

    A push to give five towns in East Yorkshire a "spring clean" begins today.

    East Riding Council officers will be visiting Bridlington, Withernsea, Hedon, Beverley and Driffield with information on what can and can't be recycled in wheelie bins.

    Simon Ellen is the chief executive of the Recycling Association. He thinks all councils across the country should all agree on one nationwide set of rules for recycling.

    Hull City Head Coach Nigel Adkins admits his decision to change a winning team at the weekend wasn't taken lightly.

    Ondrej Mazuch returned in place of Michael Hector as one of two alterations in the 3-0 defeat at Birmingham City where captain Michael Dawson retained his starting shirt in the side.

    The loss leaves Nigel Adkins side just six points above the relegation zone in the Championship.
