    It's been confirmed that Scunthorpe's Carpetright store will close.

    Creditors for the flooring retailer have approved the plans to close 81 shops, with the loss of about 300 jobs.

    Carpetright, which has more than 400 UK shops, has been struggling with under-performing outlets which have made its rental costs harder to shoulder.

    It's emerged that the failed Wakefield City Academies Trust (WCAT) spent over £1m of public money on sacking its staff before it announced it was due to close.

    The figures reveal the Trust made redundancy payments worth £454,000 and severance payments worth £640,000.

    In their accounts the trust, which ran 21 academy schools across West, South and East Yorkshire, state the payments were "cost effective".

    WCAT announced in September last year it couldn't carry on running the schools because it could not rapidly improve them.

    Last month a police investigation into the financial running of a collapsed academy chain has found that no crimes were committed.

    The Northern Powerhouse Minister has acknowledged that one of East Yorkshire's busiest roads is a 'pinch point' which needs improvement.

    East Riding of Yorkshire Council is bidding for £40m of funding from the Department of Transport for major upgrade work at the Jock's Lodge junction, external in Beverley.

    The MP for Beverley and Holderness MP Graham Stuart wrote to the minister Jake Berry asking for him to support the bid.

    It is believed the Department for Transport's final decision is due to be made in the coming weeks.

    Extra police officers will be on duty for Grimsby Town's home match against Notts County tomorrow.

    Humberside Police says it is working with the club in the build-up to the game, to prevent a repeat of the disorder seen at the Mariners' match with Port Vale in March.

    Two men who were arrested in connection with a pitch invasion during the match on Saturday 10 March have been banned from attending the game.

    The force says additional officers will be on duty in and around Blundell Park tomorrow.

    A row has broken out among fishermen in Bridlington after claims thousands of lobster pots were damaged by boats fishing for scallops.

    There are claims that a rogue fleet of vessels is using a controversial dredging method to scrape the sea floor.

    Some local shell fishermen say they've lost up to £30,000 of equipment.

    Mike Cohen from the Holderness Fishing Industry Group said:

    "Scallop dredging is fine in the right place, but when it tries to occupy that same space as the potting fishery it can cause a huge amount of damage."

    The line-up for a major festival in Hull has been announced today.

    Back To Ours was launched in 2017 as part of City of Culture and is continuing to put on events across the city.

    The fifth Back To Ours festival will be held throughout the May half-term holiday and will see performances from the band The Coral and the Australian circus company Casus Circus.

    More on the news that West Yorkshire-based discount retailer Poundworld is looking at closing about 100 of its 355 stores, putting up to 1,500 jobs at risk.

    Poundworld is expected to announce the terms of the Company Voluntary Arrangement next month and As well as closing stores it would try to get agreement from landlords to reduce rents.

    The chain imports a lot of its stock and is having to pay more for it because of the fall in the value of the pound.

    However, unlike most retailers Poundworld cannot pass on its cost increases to customers because its business model means it sells everything for a pound.

    Poundworld employs about 5,500 staff and has its headquarters in West Yorkshire.

    The company was formed in 2004, but it says it can trace its origins "back to 1974 and a market stall in Wakefield, West Yorkshire".

    The company also has seven shops in East Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire.

    The company is also considering an insolvency process called a Company Voluntary Arrangement (CVA).

    Like many retailers Poundworld has been hit by falling consumer confidence, rising overheads and the weaker pound.

    Poundworld- based in Wakefield - is owned by private equity firm TPG Capital, which also owns restaurant chain Prezzo whose landlords agreed to a CVA last month.

    The company also has seven shops in East Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire.

    Five teenagers have been charged with a total of 28 offences following a police crack down in north Hull.

    Humberside Police say the boys, aged between 14 and 19 years old were arrested over a range of offences including theft, burglary and assault.

    They've all been bailed to appear at court at later dates.

    Thieves have stolen memorabilia from a hospital waiting room for people with dementia.

    Staff in the fracture clinic at Hull Royal Infirmary set up the memory area in the style of a living room from the 1960s and 1970s to help people feel calm before appointments.

    Now the Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust says several items including ornaments and photo books have been taken.

    The M62 westbound at has reopened after a lorry overturned earlier spilling its load of soft drinks all over the carriageway.

    Amazingly there were no injuries from the crash.

    Delays have now almost completely reduced to normal traffic flow.

    We're getting reports of a gas leak that has caused the closure a major road in Bridlington this afternoon.

    Two fire engines were called to a building on Bridge Street at around 13:20.

    They have isolated the gas and are working with engineers to investigate the incident.

    Police say they have closed the road as a precaution.

    A new £12m renewable energy centre is going to be built in East Yorkshire.

    The Aura Innovation Centre has secured £4m from the European Regional Development Fund to allow the work to progress.

    Aura, which is part of the University of Hull, says it will be a place for businesses to work together to come up with new ideas for the offshore wind and renewables industry.

    It says it will strengthen the region's international standing as a centre of excellence in offshore wind innovation.

    Work on the new site at the Bridgehead, near the Humber Bridge, is expected to start at the end of this year.
