  2. Hundreds of horse cruelty complaints investigatedpublished at 12:21 British Summer Time 24 April 2018

    The RSPCA says it received more than 600 complaints about the treatment of horses in East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire last year.

    The animal welfare charity described it as a "horse crisis" and said some owners felt it was not worth paying a vet to treat an ill horse, or put the animal to sleep and dispose of the body.

    It said prosecution cases involving horses had risen by 25% nationally since 2015.

    Grimsby's Stuart Carrington has lost his match at the Snooker World Championship.

    He was beaten by world number six Barry Hawkins 10-7 in Sheffield last night.

    The match lasted seven hours, finishing at almost midnight.

    A portable cabin, which will serve as Hornsea's new first-aid post has been delivered to the town.

    Campaigners decided to set up the first-aid centre following the closure of the town's minor injuries unit.

    It'll be based in a supermarket car park and will be fitted out over the next few weeks.

  5. Police say barn fire is suspected arson attackpublished at 11:07 British Summer Time 24 April 2018

    Humberside Police have confirmed they are treating a fire which destroyed a barn in East Yorkshire, as a suspected arson attack.

    It took crews from Humberside Fire and Rescue several hours to deal with the fire in Burstwick last night.

    Officers are appealing for anyone with information to call 101 quoting log number 560.

  6. Hull to host BBC Biggest Weekend 'fringe' eventpublished at 10:42 British Summer Time 24 April 2018

    Hull is to host a special gig as part of the fringe events for BBC Music's Biggest Weekend, it's been announced.

    The event, at the Polar Bear pub on Spring Bank on 22 May, will be hosted by BBC Music Introducing on BBC Radio Humberside.

    Hull band Counting Coins are headlining the night and songs by other upcoming artists from the area will be played between the acts.

    Police say they are investigating a fire on a farm in East Yorkshire.

    Humberside Fire and Rescue crews were called to deal with the fire in a barn in Burstwick at about 19:30 last night and they remain on the scene.

    Police say the barn, which contained straw, was destroyed and are appealing with anyone with information to come forward.

  8. Police launch crime crackdown on Hull estatepublished at 09:34 British Summer Time 24 April 2018

    A day of action to deal with anti-social behaviour and crime in an area of Hull is due to take place today.

    Humberside Police says it is working with Hull City Council, the fire service and other community groups to deal with issues highlighted by residents on Stanley Street.

    The police say problems with drug and street drinking, anti-social behaviour and other issues were raised in a local survey.

    The team will be in the area today to offer advice to elderly and vulnerable people, as well as litter-picking and clearing up fly-tipped rubbish.

    Volunteers in a village in North Lincolnshire are due to be given speed guns today in a bid to catch drivers breaking the law.

    It's part of a new Community Speed Watch pilot project being launched by the council together with Safer Roads Humber and Humberside Police.

    The scheme will run for three weeks in the village of Thornton Curtis, with a view to involving other villages if it's a success.

    People caught breaking the speed limit by the volunteers will be sent a warning letter by the police.

    Multi-million pound plans to redesign the seafront in Bridlington will go on display today.

  13. Winterton crash: Driver jailed for five yearspublished at 17:01 British Summer Time 23 April 2018

    A man has been jailed for five years for causing death and serious injury by dangerous driving.

    Daniel Whitehand, of Avenue Nozay, Broughton near Brigg was driving a car in November 2016 which was carrying three passengers.

    Driving at excessive speed between Broughton and Barton upon Humber, he lost control of the vehicle leading to the death of 17 year old Paige Collier and causing serious injury to her lifelong best friend Jasmine Codling.

  14. College backs CEO despite union concernspublished at 16:42 British Summer Time 23 April 2018

    The Hull College Group say they do have confidence in their CEO after the University College Union (UCU) confirmed that a motion of no confidence had been issued on Friday evening.

    Michelle Swithenbank was appointed CEO of Hull College Group less than a year ago to lead the recovery of the college following a period of financial difficulties.

    On Wednesday,University and College Union (UCU) members working at the college voted for strike action over plans to cut 231 posts.

    The college has begun a restructuring plan to deal with a £10m deficit.

  15. Tour de Yorkshire: Olympian van der Breggen will be in racepublished at 16:25 British Summer Time 23 April 2018

    Olympic champion Anna van der Breggen will race in the Tour de Yorkshire in May, along with Britain's Katie Archibald and Dani Rowe.

    Dutchwoman Van der Breggen, 28, has won Strade Bianche, the Tour of Flanders, Fleche Wallonne and Liege-Bastogne-Liege this season.

    Briton Lizzie Deignan, the 2017 winner, will not race because she is pregnant.

    The two-day race, which covers 260.5km (162 miles), starts in Beverley on 3 May and ends in Ilkley.

    Van der Breggen, who will ride for Boels-Dolmans, won the gold medal in the women's road race at the 2016 Olympics in Rio.

    Archibald, 24, will ride for Wiggle High5 and Rowe, 27, for the Great Britain national team.

    They won team pursuit gold for GB at the 2012 and 2016 Olympics.

    The men's race runs from 3-6 May.

  16. Warning after fire at derelict Hull buildingpublished at 15:58 British Summer Time 23 April 2018

    Humberside Police say that "sadly once again" they alongside Humberside Fire and Rescue have been called to the derelict Lordline building over the weekend.

    Officers say there was a fire and a lot of young people around the building.

    They are encouraging parents to speak with their children about the dangers of derelict buildings and how they can be "death traps".
