    A bereaved mother from Hull who has led the campaign for an independent inquiry into the baby ashes scandal has welcomed plans for a meeting with the Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt.

    She is among more than 60 parents in Hull who weren't given the ashes of their babies who had died.

    The ambulance service which covers Lincolnshire has asked for an extra £20m a year from local health commissioners in a bid to help it meet its performance targets.

    East Midlands Ambulance Service is currently reaching the most critically ill people in an average of nine minutes, two minutes short of its target.

    Bosses have said the extra funding should mean it can hit its targets in every county it serves by September 2019.

    A series of meetings is being held this week to decide whether the region's clinical commissioning groups will meet the cash request.

    A year on from the disappearance of Hull mum Renata Antczak, Humberside Police say they are still treating the case as a murder investigation.

    No one has heard or seen the 49-year-old since this time last year, despite extensive searches by the police.

    She was last seen dropping her daughter off at school.

    Humberside Police say they are still going through the evidence and have a team of about 40 officers working on the investigation.

    They have renewed their appeal for anyone with information to come forward.

    The Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt (pictured) has agreed to meet with bereaved parents in Hull to discuss the baby ashes scandal.

    Campaigners want an independent local inquiry to look into why ashes of cremated infants were scattered or kept without their knowledge.

    An internal report by Hull City Council showed about 60 families weren't given the ashes of their babies who were cremated.

    Hull North Labour MP Diana Johnson will also attend the meeting which is due to be held on Wednesday 18 July.

    A man has died after getting out of his car following an accident on the M62 near Howden.

    The 49-year-old man died at the scene at about 18:15 last night close to the Ouse Bridge.

    It is thought a white Ford Kuga hit an HGV travelling in the same direction, police say.

    The driver got out of his car and was then struck by a car travelling the other way.

    The motorway was closed overnight.

    More than 1,000 children from East Yorkshire took part in a 2km fun run today, as part of a drive to encourage more under-10s to get active.

    Pupils from 24 schools took part in the run around Brantingham Park.

    They were waved off by Commonwealth Games gold-medalist Harry Aikines-Aryeetey.

    Volunteers in a North Lincolnshire village have been getting the chance to try out new speed guns.

    The cameras are being given to residents in Thornton Curtis, as part of a three week pilot project.

    Drivers who are caught speeding will be sent a warning by the police.

    Senior councillors in the East Riding have decided to press ahead with far-reaching changes to sheltered housing.

    Some homes will be reclassified as general council housing and others simply housing for older people.

    Officials are stressing that no vulnerable person requiring sheltered housing will be expected to move under these changes.

    Councillors also approved plans to change the role of site wardens to general "community responders".

    The council says the move is not a cost-cutting measure and the aim is to target resources where they are most needed.

    Plans for three days of strike action by Hull College staff have been announced.

    The University and College Union (UCU) says members at sites in Hull, Goole and Harrogate will walk out on 9, 17 and 18 May over plans to cut more than 200 jobs and change some courses.

    An art installation in Hull was vandalised last night, just hours after volunteers put it together.

    The phone boxes filled with thousands of sugar lumps were put in place to mark World Immunisation Week.

    Last night one of the phone boxes in King Edward Square was prised open and the sugar lumps were strewn across the street.

    There's good news though, Hull City Council says its teams have already been out to repair the phone box and the sugar lumps are back in place.

    More than 300 homes on the East Yorkshire coast are urgently in need of extra government help to protect them from the sea, according to East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

    The authority has announced plans to bid for up to £5m of government funding to improve flood defences in Withernsea.

    It wants to extend the current defences by up to 400 metres south of the town where land is already being eroded.

    Residents say they believe the land is being eroded by the sea far quicker than expected.
