    Work to demolish six tower blocks in Grimsby has begun.

    Huge cranes arrived on site yesterday and have begun taking apart the high-rise blocks from the top down to try and minimise the disruption to nearby houses.

    Lincolnshire Housing Partnership, which owns the buildings, says it will mark a new era for the East Marsh area of the town.

    It says no decision has been made on what the cleared site will be used for once the work is completed at the end of the year.

    It's happened at J28 westbound and has completely closed the carriageway to all traffic.

    Police and Highways England workers are currently trying to clear the road.

    Highways England says the road could remain closed until 18:00 depending on how long it takes to move the truck.

    An overturned lorry which has shed its load is expected to to keep the M62 closed at J28 westbound until at least 18:00, according to Highways England:

    Motorists are being diverted via the exit and entry slips at J28 as police and Highways England workers try to clear the scene.

    There are delays back to J30.

    Drivers are being told to use M1 and M621 to keep going on the M62 westward and for the Midlands to use M1.

  5. Apartment plans for Scunthorpe town centrepublished at 12:04 British Summer Time 26 April 2018

    Plans for a block of 10 new apartments near to Scunthorpe town centre have been lodged, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

    The three-storey building would be built on empty land on Cliff Gardens, where plans for 10 assisted living apartments have already been approved.

    The site was previously owned by the council and was used for offices for local education staff.

    The land has since been divided up and sold for development by North Lincolnshire Council.

    The developers said it would bring much0needed housing to the town centre area.

    There's a warning to drivers to obey the rules of level crossings after a crash at a crossing in Bridlington this week disrupted train services.

    Two cars were involved in the accident at the Carnaby level crossing on Tuesday.

    Network Rail says four cars have hit the barriers at that crossing in the last three years.

    Previously a driver had ignored the red lights and weaved around the barriers.

    Network Rail has issued a warning that failing to stop at level crossings could have tragic consequences.

  8. Coast and estuary water warning from rescue teamspublished at 10:30 British Summer Time 26 April 2018

    Humberside Fire and Rescue has issued a warning to people to be aware of the risks of going into the water on the East Yorkshire coast and the Humber Estuary.

    It says its teams were called 22 incidents where people had got in to difficulty in mud or water last year.

    The fire service says drowning is one of the leading causes of accidental death in the UK and it is backing a national campaign to make people aware of the risks.

    It says anglers and dog walkers can often be caught out in the unpredictable tides and mud banks of the East Yorkshire coastline and the banks of the Humber Estuary.

    A meeting was held in Beverley last night to discuss an alternative to the town's cancelled folk festival.

    Earlier this week the long-running Beverley Folk Festival was called off after the firm that runs it failed.

    Last night organisers of the Beverley Festival Fringe pledged to continue the event with gigs and concerts to be held in the town's pubs and venues.

    Humberside Police say they've found nothing of concern following a search of grassland near the home of missing Hull woman Renata Antczak.

    The force says it received a call from someone who was suspicious about an area of land near Highgrove Way in Kingswood yesterday.

    A police tent was set up and investigations were carried out, but officers say nothing was found.

    It is a year since 49-year-old Renata Antczak was last seen and yesterday the police reissued an appeal for information.

    It's been confirmed that Florence + The Machine will play in Scunthorpe next month, marking her live comeback in the UK.

    A student from Hull who has cerebral palsy says his chances of living independently when he goes to university are in jeopardy as he can't get all the funding he needs for a new wheelchair.

    Dylan Wainman, 19, says he needs an upgrade to his wheelchair which would allow him to live without a carer when he goes to study computer forensics in Leeds.

    But he says he has been told he will have to raise about £8,000 towards the cost.

    The University of Hull is to carry out research looking at the effects of sea sickness on offshore wind farm crews.

    It is part of a project aimed at improving safety.

    The result of the study will determine whether workers should be sent out in choppy waters.

    Maintenance on the wind turbines can be delayed as a direct result of rough weather crossings.

    Police have been searching grassland overnight near the home of missing Hull woman Renata Antczak.

    A police tent was set up in the Kingswood area of the city last night.

    Yesterday police launched a new appeal in the search for Mrs Antczak, who was last seen a year ago.

    Police say the search is part of an ongoing operation, but are yet to confirm if it is linked to the investigation into Mrs Antczak's disappearance.

    There might still be a week to go, but people in Hornsea are really getting behind the Tour de Yorkshire.

    The town is hosting the tour for the first time and local businesses have been showing their support by dressing their windows in blue and yellow.

    Last year's event attracted 2.2 million spectators.

    The ambulance service which serves northern Lincolnshire says additional funding would help it recruit more paramedics and put more vehicles on the road.

    East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) has asked local health commissioners for an an extra £20m a year to help it meet response targets.

    The average response time for the most critical cases is currently two minutes above the national target.

    A motorbike rider has been injured in a collision with a truck in Hull, say police.

    Officers say it happened on the junction between Marfleet Lane and Preston Road on Monday afternoon.

    Humberside Police say they are keen to speak to a man who stopped and spoke to the motorcyclist after the incident.

    The motorbike rider suffered minor injuries.
