    A former Hull councillor who was convicted in February of downloading indecent images of children is due to be sentenced later.

    Steven Bayes, 56, of Prospect Street, Hull, led the successful campaign for the city to win City of Culture status last year.

    Bayes, who was expelled from the Labour Party, remained a councillor until today having not stood for re-election in yesterday's local elections.

    A renovated student house in Hull has been themed around the rock group Spiders from Mars, David Bowie's 1970s backing band that hailed from the city.

    Spiders House in Auckland Avenue contains memorabilia donated by drummer Mick "Woody" Woodmansey, the last surviving band member.

    Woodmansey said he was excited to see his life "immortalised in a liveable time capsule".

    The developers said it wanted the house to be a "fitting and lasting tribute".

    A motorcyclist has died after his bike was in collision with a tractor and a car on the A614 in East Yorkshire last night.

    The man, in his 50s, suffered fatal injuries in the accident which happened between Middleton on the Wolds and the roundabout at Londesborough Road.

    Police would like to speak to anyone who may have seen what happened.

    Lifeboat volunteers in Withernsea are expected to launch a £26,000 appeal fund later in a bid to pay for a new inshore lifeboat for the town.

    Withernsea's current lifeboat is 10 years old and is said to be nearing the end of its useful life.

    A local housebuilder has already agreed to donate the first £26,000 needed to buy the boat, leaving today's appeal to raise the remaining half.

    Steel from Scunthorpe could be used as part of a £15bn project to expand Britain's biggest airport.

    Heathrow's bosses are due to visit the British Steel plant there later.

    They're considering plans for a new runway at the London airport and to expand the capacity in its terminals.

    The second stage of the Tour de Yorkshire is now well under way, with competitors in Stage 2 of the women's race now heading from Barnsley to Ilkley.

    More than 30,000 people watched the race set off from Beverley yesterday.

    The women's race competitors are due to arrive in Ilkley at about 12:20, and the men's race is then due to start from Barnsley at about 14:20 this afternoon.

    Labour has retained control of Hull Council, but with a reduced majority as the Liberal Democrats gained extra seats in Thursday's local elections.

    The ruling party saw a seven-seat drop in its total, taking 31 seats with the Lib Dems share in the council chamber increasing to 24.

    The all-out election meant that every single seat on the council was contested.

    In North East Lincolnshire, Labour has hung on to remain the biggest party despite Tory gains.

    Eighteen-year-old Oliver Freeston has become one of the youngest councillors in the country following Thursday's local elections.

    There's currently queuing traffic and the main carriageway on the M62 Westbound is currently closed at J34 A19 (Selby/Doncaster) due to an accident.

    Two lorries have collided, one coming to a stop in lane two, and the other further ahead in lane three.

    The main carriageway has been closed to avoid traffic weaving between the lorries involved and to ease recovery.
