    An inquest into the death of two farm workers in East Yorkshire has heard how both men drowned when they fell in to a tank of slurry.

    Richard Pooley, 36, from Roos, and Alexander Forman, 32, from Sunk Island, died in December 2015 at the farm on Newlands Road, Sunk Island.

    Their bodies were found at a slurry pit at the site.

    The inquest also heard how the pair were trying to remove a blockage when they were overcome by fumes.

    A Scunthorpe project which helps people with mental health issues get into work has secured another year's funding.

    Ongo's Looking-Up , externalproject provides counselling, confidence building and links with businesses.

    Last year the scheme helped more than 100 people, with some moving on to full-time employment.

    Funding for the project has come from the Job Centre Plus.

    Students and union staff say they fear for the future of Hull's 153- year-old School of Art and Design.

    The art school is run by Hull College, which is dealing with financial issues, and is currently involved in a row over job cuts and changes to the courses it offers.

    Hull College says the institution is not closing, and recruitment for its new foundation degrees is going well.

    Hull's new Lord Mayor has been elected today, in a close contest which highlights the changing make up of the city council.

    Labour councillor Peter Allen will take up the position, with clr Steve Wilson becoming his deputy.

    The Liberal Democrats also put forward their own candidate and Labour only ended up winning by two votes.

    The Lib Dems gained seven seats from the ruling party in the local elections two weeks ago.

    Sewerby Hall and Gardens will be home to an 'Amy Johnson Trail' over the half-term holidays.

    The trail will give people the chance to match up the names of Amy's planes (all named after moths) to their real life insect namesakes.

    Hull-born aviator Amy Johnson (pictured above) was the first woman to fly solo from England to Australia in 1930.

    The trail at Sewerby Hall will run from Saturday 26 May until Sunday 3 June.

    Staff at Hull College Group, which runs colleges in Hull, Goole and Harrogate, have begun a 48-hour strike as part of an ongoing row over plans to cut over 200 jobs across its sites.

    But the University and College Union argues the proposals would lead to "fewer learning opportunities for local people".

    Hull College Group has started a restructuring plan to deal with a £10m deficit.

    A petition with more than 2,500 signatures against plans to sell a Scunthorpe playing field for housing is being considered by North Lincolnshire Council today.

    But new rules around petitions means it would fail to qualify for discussion in future.

    The number of signatures required to trigger a full council debate is being raised from 1,500 to 5% of the electorate - about 6,400 signatures.

    A man's been left with injuries to his face and a serious cut to his ear following a fight in Bridlington.

    Humberside Police believe the 25-year-old was involved in a fight with three men on Garrison Street in the early hours of Monday 7 May.

    Officers are appealing for anyone who may have seen an earlier fight involving all four individuals at the Apollo nightclub to come forward.

    Withernsea and Hornsea beaches have lost their Blue Flags, meaning there are now no beaches in East Yorkshire which have reached the highest international standard of water quality.

    But both beaches have been given a Seaside Award by Keep Britain Tidy, external for high standards of cleanliness and facilities.

    The closest beaches with Blue Flags are now Whitby in North Yorkshire and Skegness, Ingoldmells, Mablethorpe and Sutton-on-Sea in Lincolnshire.
