    In the past few minutes, it's been announced that the East Coast rail franchise is being taken back into public control.

    Stagecoach and Virgin Trains were awarded an eight-year contract in 2014 to run the London to Edinburgh line - but they've been losing millions of pounds.

    In a stock market statement, Stagecoach chief executive Martin Griffiths, said: "We are surprised and disappointed that the Department for Transport has chosen not to proceed with our proposals."

    "Today's decision should not detract from the hard work and dedication of our people at Virgin Trains East Coast"

    Transport Secretary Chris Grayling is expected to make a statement to parliament shortly.

    The space for under-fives at Ferens Art Gallery opened at the start of last year and Hull City Council says it has had more than 100,000 visitors.

    It has been shortlisted for a 2018 Museums and Heritage Award.

    A body found at the bottom of cliffs in Sussex is that of the former Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals boss Phil Morley, police have confirmed.

    The former NHS chief executive was facing fraud charges and was due to appear at Hull Magistrates' Court next month.

    Mr Morley's body was found at Beachy Head on Saturday 5 May.

    A cordon remains in place near a Hull primary school as police investigate a fight nearby in the early hours of this morning.

    Police say a man was taken to hospital with cuts to his face and head following the incident on Stoneferry Road.

    Stoneferry Primary School has remained closed today, while police continue their investigation.

    Two sheltered housing schemes in North East Lincolnshire which had been earmarked for closure will now stay open, it's been revealed.

    Matthew Quinn House and Elliot House in Grimsby will stay open following feedback from residents, according to the Lincolnshire Housing Partnership (LHP).

    The move comes after a petition was started by residents who didn't want to leave the accommodation.

    A third site, Warwick House, will close as planned, LHP says, and th 10 people who live there have been informed.

    The Princess Royal will visit this year's Great Yorkshire Show, it's been revealed.

    Princess Anne is set to come to the agricultural show on Wednesday 11 July to meet competitors and exhibitors.

    This year, about 130,000 visitors are expected at the three-day show which will feature about 1,200 stands.

    The Princess Royal last visited the show in 2014.

    The clock at Bridlington Town Hall has stopped again, just four years after £20,000 was spent repairing it.

    The landmark clock near the town's railways station stopped for a whole year in 2014 because of a build-up of pigeon droppings.

    East Riding of Yorkshire Council says it hopes the clock will be working again by the start of next week.

    Derelict buildings in the area known as the Kasbah will be brought back into use, including the 'at risk' Ice Factory.

    A primary school in Hull has had to stay closed this morning following a fight nearby which left one man needing hospital treatment.

    Two men were involved in the incident close to Stoneferry Primary School at about 05:30 this morning, according to police.

    One man was left with cuts to his face and head.

    Officers say a cordon is in place around the scene from Stoneferry Road to Lorraine Street while investigations continue.

    A derelict area of Grimsby is going to be redeveloped as part of multi-million pound plans due to be set out later.

    More details about a five-year plan to bring the area around the town's old fish docks back into use will be announced by North East Lincolnshire Council and Heritage England.

    The investment is expected to total £3.7m.

    It's a snake nestling among the hairdryer flexes at a salon in Epworth, near Scunthorpe.

    It caused a major alert for the RSPCA on Saturday, when terrified staff called for help to get rid of it.

    It was caught humanely and released in a field nearby.

    Police have appealed for help to find a woman from Waltham, between Grimsby and Louth, who's been missing since yesterday.

    Lesley Fenwick, who's 73, has been missing since this morning and officers are concerned because she has dementia.

    She was last seen at around 07.30 at her home on Ronald Farmer Court, off Archer Road.

    Her family have said her going missing is out of character and she doesn’t have a mobile phone or access to a car.
