    A woman from Driffield says she was "shocked" to see a parking attendant giving an ambulance a ticket.

    Emily Dean spotted that the vehicle had been issued with a fine after it was parked in the town's High Street on Tuesday.

    She said people had tried to explain the driver was attending a call but had been told the driver would have to appeal.

    East Riding of Yorkshire Council said the parking ticket has since been cancelled.

    An early rush hour is expected in many parts of East Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire as people try to get home in time for England's World Cup semi-final match against Croatia.

    The RAC predicts that roads will be "much quieter than on Christmas Day" when the match kicks off at 19:00.

  4. Train bosses hope to launch direct Cleethorpes to London servicepublished at 15:48 British Summer Time 11 July 2018

    The boss of Grand Central Trains says direct services from Cleethorpes to London could soon become a reality.

    The company is looking at running a train from London that would split in two at Doncaster, with one half branching off to Bradford and the other to Cleethorpes.

    Currently passengers travelling from Cleethorpes have to change trains at Doncaster to pick up a service to London.

    It's hoped the new service could start as soon as 2020 and help to boost economic growth in the area.

    The RSPCA is investigating after a dog was dumped in a park in Hull.

    Gareth, a six-year-old Dogue de Bordeaux, was found tied to a fence in the Anlaby Road area on 2 July.

    Trainee inspector Lucy Green said Gareth had been left in an 'horrendous' state and was underweight, lame and suffering with a degenerative spinal condition.

    "Almost everything that could have been wrong with him, was," she said.

    The RSPCA said Gareth had been microchipped but the details were out of date.

    He is now being cared for by the charity while inspectors try to find his owner and discover how he came to be left in the park.

  7. Murder investigation under way in Scunthorpepublished at 13:34 British Summer Time 11 July 2018

    Police in Scunthorpe have launched a murder inquiry, external after the body of a man was found in a disused building.

    Raymond Adam Ward, who was 51-years-old and of no fixed address, was found in the building on Cliff Gardens.

    Two men, aged 37 and 24, have been arrested.

    Police say they believe this was a targeted attack and have increased their presence in the area.

    There's been a development in the row over sick-pay for staff and drivers at household waste sites in Hull and East Yorkshire.

    Unison members walked out earlier this year,saying that FCC Environment should give them the same rights as managers and supervisors, when it comes to sick pay.

    The union says the company has implemented a new policy, without their agreement, and in response has suspended strike action to monitor whether the new rules are applied fairly.

    We are still waiting for a comment from FCC Environment.

    Hull-born film-maker Sean McAllister (pictured below left) is to receive an honourary doctorate today, in recognition of his contribution to film-making and work during Hull's year as UK City of Culture.

    Sean notably directed the BAFTA-nominated Syrian Love Story which featured Amer Daoud (above right) and most recently A Northern Soul, which focuses on a Hull warehouse worker and asks what Hull2017 meant to the city's residents.

    He'll receive the honour in a ceremony at Hull City Hall this afternoon.

  10. Coastal bus service could stop running in the winterpublished at 10:55 British Summer Time 11 July 2018

    We told you yesterday the Coastliner bus service from Leeds to Bridlington could be reduced from three services a day to one.

    The company is now warning it could be axed completely during the winter months because so few people use it.

    Tourism chiefs in Bridlington said yesterday they were "very concerned" about the impact of any reduction in the service.

    Police say they are looking for a small van they think could have been involved in a ram-raid on a shop in Hornsea, external on Monday.

    It's thought the maroon or purple Peugeot Partner was reversed into the front of Heron Foods on Newbegin shortly before 05:00.

    Detectives say the van may be damaged.

    Councillors in Hull want to look at ways to improve traffic in the city.

    One option they are considering is introducing designated lanes for cars with more than one person in them.

    A North Lincolnshire councillor, with responsibility for greener and cleaner spaces, has promised tough action on those who fail to clean up after their dog.

    Councillor Ralph Ogg wants to see communities get involved and report anything they see, so the council can take action.

    Removing litter, dumped rubbish and dog fouling costs the council £1m annually.

    Councillor Ogg says he's considering increasing the cost of on-the-spot fines for those failing to clean up after their dog.

  14. Police appeal to crowds ahead of England semi-finalpublished at 09:10 British Summer Time 11 July 2018

    Humberside Police are reminding fans to enjoy the World Cup safely and legally tonight.

    Last Saturday's quarter-final match saw cars and property in parts of the country damaged in the wake of England's 2-0 win over Sweden.

    Humberside Police received over 2,000 calls, including over 800 to the emergency 999 number on Saturday night.

    That's more than on New Years Eve.

    Humberside Police are now asking fans to show "restraint" while watching England's semi-final match against Croatia.

    The Princess Royal will be the guest of honour at the 160th Great Yorkshire Show later.

    Prince Charles is patron of the Yorkshire Agricultural Society, which organises the event in Harrogate.

    The show has received several royal visits over its long history

    Recent visitors include The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh in 2008.

    The Princess Royal last visited in 2010 (pictured above).

    It's predicted more than 100,000 people will have passed through the gates of the showground by the end of tomorrow's final day.

    There's been a large fire at a waste recycling plant in East Yorkshire overnight.

    At it's height more than 25 firefighters were needed to control the blaze at Transwaste on Gibson Lane in Melton.
