A council in Surrey has backed down amid calls for the reopening of a village hall which was closed suddenly nearly a year ago for emergency repair works.
Hersham Village Hall was shut unexpectedly in June last year due to fire and safety concerns.
The sudden closure of the Queens Road venue and neighbouring Hersham Centre for the Community shocked residents in the area, who have spent the last 10 months calling on Elmbridge Borough Council to open up the buildings.
Council leader Stuart Selleck confirmed that surveys for repairs will now be carried out in a bid to renovate and re-open the hall.
