    The boy is described as Asian, with short dark hair, and was last seen wearing a blue uniform blazer.

    Det Supt Simon Atkinson says: "We'd like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or knows the whereabouts of the suspect."

    The NASUWT teaching union in West Yorkshire is warning against a "knee-jerk" reaction after the stabbing of teacher at Dixons Kings Academy in Bradford this morning.

    Parents of pupils at Dixons Kings Academy in Bradford, where a teacher was stabbed earlier today, have been coming and going while lessons are apparently taking place here as normal this afternoon.

    And a mum of a pupil at the school says: "The school does look after the children. It's their responsibility. I do trust the staff.

    Kevin Courtney, deputy general secretary of the National Union of Teachers, has described the stabbing of a 50-year-old male teacher at Dixons Kings Academy in Bradford as "dreadful".

    Speaking at a press conference at the school's gates, Dixons Kings Academy executive principal Nick Weller urged the boy suspected of stabbing the teacher to hand himself in.

    He said: "I think the best thing for him to do is to report to the police station because he will be caught and the sooner that he does that, probably the better for him."

    Mr Weller said the knife was brought into school and security would be reviewed.

    "Obviously we will review everything we do, there are some things that happen that you can't account for, that you can't anticipate."

    Dixons Kings Academy has just released this statement after a teacher was stabbed this morning.

    "A member of staff was assaulted with a knife by a 14-year-old student who then ran off the site. The member of staff is in hospital and his condition is described as stable, there is no internal bleeding.

    "All students are safe and calm and have responded with tremendous maturity during a very difficult time."

    West Yorkshire Police won't confirm how many officers are searching for a 14-year-old boy they're seeking in connection with the stabbing of a teacher at a Bradford school this morning.

    However, a spokeswoman for the force tells me a "considerable" search is under way.

    Pictures from the scene show officers scouring the area with dogs, while several police vehicles remain parked outside the school gates.
