    Four men have been, external jailed after posing as police officers to try and con people in West Yorkshire out of their cash.

    Malik Amer, Shah Ahmed, Rahim Ali and Ruhel Miah have been jailed after scamming people across the country while pretending to be detectives investigating fraudulent activities in their bank accounts.

    The four, all from London, were caught following an investigation by the Yorkshire and Humber Organised Crime Unit and jailed at Leeds Crown Court on Friday for a combined total of 15 years.

    The family of an 85-year-old woman from Leeds - who has advanced dementia - are desperately trying to find somewhere for her to live - once her private care home closes down. 

    Mary Brown lives at Ashlands in Methley, which is closing in December after twice being rated inadequate by inspectors. The type of nursing care she needs is not provided by Leeds City Council and, so far, Mary's family have struggled to find anywhere for her to live - because there are so few beds available.

  3. EU Yorkshire and Humber seat legal action by Alex Storypublished at 14:36 Greenwich Mean Time 21 November 2016

    Former candidate Alex Story is considering further legal action against a decision not to make him a Conservative MEP.

    The former Olympic rower told Daily Politics presenter Jo Coburn it would have been a "huge honour" to represent Yorkshire and the Humber for the time the UK remains part of the EU.

    The vacancy arose after Timothy Kirkhope was given a seat in the Lords by David Cameron. His seat would normally go to Mr Story as the person who came second in the Conservative list for the region at the 2014 European elections.

    Thousands of people turned out at the weekend to welcome a Bollywood superstar on a visit to Bradford.

    Ranveer Singh was in the city to promote his new film, Befikre, with a free event in Bradford's City Park.

    Mr Singh is the first major Bollywood star to visit the city since it hosted the Indian Film Awards ceremony in 2007.

    Bradford was one of the first places in the UK to hold regular screenings of Hindi language films.

    Mr Singh, who has more than 3.6m followers on Twitter, said the large concentration of people living in the area who came from the South Asian diaspora was the reason for his visit.

    Rain spreading north this afternoon, becoming heavy and persistent and temporarily falling as snow over high ground.

    Feeling colder as the gusty north easterly wind picks up this afternoon. Highs of about 6C (43F).

    The family of a man from Wakefield who's been missing for two months are "desperate" to know he's safe, say West Yorkshire Police, external.

    Tim Mercer, 50, was last seen at the Tesco Express store on Stanley Road in Wakefield at about 18:00 on Tuesday 20 September.

    He was also spotted on CCTV at the Sainsbury's store at Trinity Walk in Wakefield that same evening.

    Det Insp Dan Tillett says: "It's now two months since Tim was last seen and we are very concerned for his welfare as this is out of character for him. 

    "His family are naturally desperate to know he is safe and I would urge Tim or anyone who has any information about his whereabouts to get in touch." 

    Mr Mercer's described as white, 5ft 8ins tall, with a scar to his left cheek and a beard. He was last seen wearing a black beanie hat with a Leeds United emblem.

    Nazi-related material was found when police raided the home of the man accused of killing the Labour MP Jo Cox, the Old Bailey has heard.

    Officers found an SS officer's book on race theory and mate selection, along with other white supremacist texts, when they raided the home of Thomas Mair after his arrest, the jury heard.

    Ms Cox died after she was shot three times and received 15 stab wounds in Birstall, West Yorkshire, on 16 June.

    Mr Mair, 53, denies her murder.

    You might remember that just over a week ago we were warning the good people of Leeds about this 160-year-old yak being sighted in the city:

    It was just one of several stuffed animals from Leeds Museum being removed for maintenance -  and in the Yak's case it definitely needed it because fur-eating moth larvae had been found on it.

  12. Motorcyclist seriously hurt in collisionpublished at 11:49

    A motorcyclist has suffered serious head and facial injuries, external after colliding with a car in Leeds.

    The collision happened at about 12:15 on Sunday afternoon at the junction of Thorpe Road and Acre Road in Middleton.

    A Vauxhall Signum car and a Lifan motorbike collided, leaving the bike's rider - a man in his 20s - needing treatment at Leeds General Infirmary.

    Anyone with information about the collision is asked to contact police.

    Politicians in northern England say they want Chancellor Philip Hammond to prioritise transport links in the region to make it more attractive to investors.

    The final days of Yorkshire's Kellingley Colliery are depicted in a special two-part BBC TV documentary starting tonight.

    Kellingley, near Pontefract, closed for good last December, bringing to an end deep coal mining in Britain, and putting 450 people out of work.

    Detectives investigating a serious sexual assault on a woman in Leeds at the weekend have released a CCTV image of a man they want to identify, external.

    The victim had been out with a friend in Headingley on Saturday night where they met two men who gave them a lift into Leeds city centre in a car.

    In the early hours of Sunday morning, the two women went to Boar Lane to catch a bus home when the same two men approached them in the car and offered them a lift.

    The friend was dropped off in Stanningley before the victim was driven to an unknown address where she was subjected to a serious sexual assault.

    Craving a return to the Premier League as much as Leeds' fans is midfielder Kalvin Phillips, the winner of the EFL Young Player of the Month award for October.  

    The 20-year-old was aged only eight when Leeds were relegated and has told BBC Sport that he knows better than most what promotion would mean.

    Campaigners fighting against the closure of Huddersfield's A&E department are due to host a public meeting later.

    Members of the Hands Off HRI, external group are expected to discuss the next steps they'll take after the Greater Huddersfield and Calderdale Clinical Commissioning Groups voted last month to approve plans to close Huddersfield Royal Infirmary's A&E and move emergency care to Halifax.

    Health bosses say continuing to run both A&E departments isn't sustainable, but some local residents believe it could put lives at risk.
