    Huddersfield is a particularly hard place to find an NHS dentist.

    The watchdog Healthwatch Kirklees did a test and of 105 dentists on the NHS Choices website within a 10-mile radius of the centre of Huddersfield, only nine were listed as accepting new NHS patients. When contacted, all nine were full.

    As winter approaches the NHS faces its busiest time. This week the BBC is focusing on one town - Huddersfield - to look into people's experiences when getting healthcare:

    Yorkshire is in the running to be named Best UK Holiday County or Destination at the British Travel Awards.

    The region is in the running to be named best UK holiday county or destination at the British Travel Awards.

    Competition comes from Northumberland, Cornwall, Devon and Pembrokeshire.

    Meanwhile, Whitby (pictured) is also up for the Best UK Coastal Award.

    York's Quartz Travel Group is hoping to win three prizes, including Best Independent Travel Agency.  

    The gala event takes place in London.

    Jurors at the Old Bailey have retired to consider their verdicts in the trial of Thomas Mair, who's been charged with murdering Batley and Spen Labour MP Jo Cox.

    Mrs Cox's parents, Gordon and Jean Leadbeater, her sister, Kim Leadbeater, and her husband, Brendan Cox, were all in court as the judge, Mr Justice Wilkie, finished summing up.

    After giving the jurors his final directions, he thanked them for their patience before they retired to consider their verdicts just after 10:50.

    Jurors have retired to consider verdicts in the trial of the man charged with murdering Labour MP Jo Cox in June.

    Thomas Mair, 53, is on trial at the Old Bailey accused of shooting and stabbing the 41-year-old Batley and Spen MP. 

    Mair denies Mrs Cox's murder, possession of a firearm with intent to commit an indictable offence and possession of an offensive weapon.

    Leeds boxer Natasha Gale has reached the middleweight final of the European Women's Boxing Championships in Sofia.

    Gale, 28, beat Wales' Lauren Price to guarantee at least silver in her first major international tournament.

    She will face France's Maily Nicar later as she attempts to emulate Nicola Adams and become only the second female boxer from Great Britain to win gold at the European Championships.

    More on the news that the husband of murdered Leeds teacher Ann Maguire has criticised a review into her death.

    Mrs Maguire, 61, was stabbed by student Will Cornick at Corpus Christi Catholic College in Leeds in 2014.

    Her husband, Don Maguire, has told the Victoria Derbyshire programme that the review has left no-one any better informed about what had happened.

    Until all the the circumstances which led to his wife's death are known, he says, "it's possible that lives could be at risk in British schools".

    "This shouldn't be about trying to make everything seem okay and hoping it doesn't happen again," he adds.

    The husband of murdered Leeds teacher Ann Maguire has criticised a review into her death.

    Her husband Don said an investigation published this month, which said the killing could not have been prevented, "felt like the bare minimum".

    The Leeds Safeguarding Children Board said its report was conducted by a well-qualified independent reviewer.

    Here are five things we didn't know when we woke up this morning: 

    - Thomas Mair, the man accused of murdering Batley MP Jo Cox, will not give evidence in his defence at his trial

    - Several roads remained closed due to flooding, including those in Otley, Burley-in-Wharfedale, and Cullingworth

    - Flood warnings were cancelled and river levels in West Yorkshire fell back to their seasonal norms.

    - Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Betty's and Keelham Farm Shops were among the award winners at the White Rose Awards

    - It was revealed that artist David Hockney is to design a stained glass window in Westminster Abbey to celebrate the Queen's reign

    - And finally, Leeds University was named the world leader in finding out how to breed the perfect pig.

  18. Woman pedestrian seriously hurt in collisionpublished at 17:45 Greenwich Mean Time 22 November 2016

    A woman pedestrian in her 70s was left with serious head and leg injuries after being hit by a car in Huddersfield on Monday, external.

    The incident happened at about 16:50 yesterday on the A62 Queensgate opposite Huddersfield University and involved a VW Golf.

    The woman was taken to Leeds General Infirmary where she's said to be in a stable condition.

    Anyone with information or who witnessed the incident is being asked to contact police.

    Bradford-born artist David Hockney is to design a stained glass window in Westminster Abbey to celebrate the Queen's reign.

    The artist, who once turned down the chance to paint the monarch because he was too busy, said he has "planned a landscape full of blossom that's a celebration every year".

    The 20ft by 6ft window in the abbey's north transept will be known as The Queen's Window.

    Make sure you put the finishing touches to your winter garden as garden waste collections go into hibernation in Leeds on Saturday 2 December.
