    This is what greeted the Leeds City Council's street cleaning team in Beeston earlier today.

    Last year fly-tipping cost local authorities in West Yorkshire more than £250,000 to clear up.

    As part of the British Coaching Awards, City of Leeds Diving Club head coach Ady Hinchliffe was awarded the coveted Mussabini Medal. 

    Ady has been the man behind Chris Mears and Jack Laugher, who won gold at Rio 2016 in the 3m synchronised springboard.

  6. Watch: Santa comes to Yorkshire earlypublished at 09:46 Greenwich Mean Time 9 December 2016

    Dozens of children from Yorkshire took to the skies in a Search for Santa.

    They took off on a special Monarch Airlines flight from Leeds Bradford Airport yesterday.

    They flew above the Yorkshire landscape and coastline, during the flight Santa appeared and when they touched down gifts were handed out to all of the children.

    Westminster politicians should stop patronising people in the north of of England who voted to leave the EU.

    That's according to a think tank running an event in Leeds today, where politicians and business leaders will discuss what the north wants from Brexit.

    The IPPR says leave voters in the North are sick of being sneered at by "remainers in the south".

    More than three-quarters of West Yorkshire passengers who responded to a consultation are calling for a modern, clean and reliable bus service.

    The results of the Combined Authority's transport survey are being released at a meeting today - after it received 13,000 replies. 

    Earlier this week, it was announced that £180m is being put into services in Leeds, but the authority says it also wants to see much more electrification of local railway lines.

    Two police vans in Bradford have had their windscreens smashed as officers were attending emergency calls.

    It happened in the Manningham area of the city in the space of two hours.

    A woman was hit with a hammer during a robbery in at her home in Leeds.

    The 59-year-old woman was at home with her 85-year-old husband on Sunday. Just before midnight a man entered the house and repeatedly punched the woman in the head and hit her with a hammer. 

    Her husband tried to intervene but was pushed to the floor. The attacker demanded money and tried to take gold bangles from her wrist. 

    The man threatened to kill her and smashed her phone when she tried to call the police. He and an accomplice but the pair left the house empty handed.

The couple reported someone calling at their door at about 22:00, asking if they had ordered a pizza. They didn't open the door but saw two male figures who then went away. We would like to hear from anyone who saw [those] two men."

  11. All aboard! New train bound for East Coast Mainlinepublished at 08:17 Greenwich Mean Time 9 December 2016

    The first batch of a new type of train that'll be used on services between Leeds and London will roll off the production line later.

    The Azuma trains will be operating on the East Coast Mainline from 2018 and are being built by Hitachi in County Durham.

    Virgin trains have ordered 122 of them and the company say they're the most advanced in the country. 

    They'll provide an extra 12,000 seats and will mean new services can be introduced from places including Harrogate and Huddersfield.

    Just hearing that on the A65 Kirkstall Road heading out of Leeds, by the junction with Washington Street, there's been an accident. It's blocked the bus lane but main the two traffic lanes are both open.
