    Three men and four women have been arrested following a stand-off with police over controversial tree felling on Chippinghouse Road.

    The stand-off was between council contractors, police and protesters earlier today.

    A High Court Judge is due to give his decision later today on a libel action brought over remarks a UKIP MEP made about the Rotherham abuse scandal.

    Jane Collins, who represents Yorkshire and Humber, wrongly claimed three MPs knew about child exploitation in the town but failed to intervene.

    The MPs, Sir Kevin Barron, John Healey and Sarah Champion, sued for slander and libel and want compensation of £150,000 each.

  3. Fog causes problems on West Yorkshire's roadspublished at 11:36 Greenwich Mean Time 6 February 2017

    The fog caused many delays for motorists this morning, West Yorkshire Police say that they dealt with 24 separate incidents on the county's roads up to 10:00.

    They say they had to deal with accidents both on minor roads and on the motorway network and that their call centre was experiencing very high demand.

    The fog also meant the hard shoulder running lane on the M62 had to be closed because Highways Agency officers couldn't see the lane clearly on their cameras.

    This meant that the lane couldn't be safely operated. 

  4. Man assaulted and robbed on York cycle pathpublished at 11:28 Greenwich Mean Time 6 February 2017

    A man in his 30s has been robbed on his way in to work.

    The attack happened at 05:45 on 30 January. 

    Police say he was walking on the cycle path between James Street and Heworth Green Surgery.  He was assaulted and his wallet was stolen.

    North Yorkshire Police say they've arrested a man but they still want to hear from anyone who were in the area at the time.

    I'm at a stand-off between council contractors, police and protesters over tree felling on Chippinghouse Road in Sheffield.

    One of the trees due to be felled has a sign attached to it saying it's damaging surrounding structures. As a result of the removal, a replacement tree will be planted.

    Joe Root is the favourite to replace Alastair Cook at England's test captain.

    Cook stepped down as captain earlier today but plans to carry on as a player.

    He was appointed captain in 2012, led England in 59 tests, which includes Ashes victories at home in 2013 and 2015 as well as series wins in India and South Africa.

    A 14-year-old girl is seriously injured after being hit by a car on Slaithwaite Road in Meltham.

    Police say a black Renault collided with the teenager where Red Lane meets Slaithwaite Road at around 15:45. The girl was taken to Leeds General Infirmary for treatment.

    Police want to hear from anyone who might have been in the area at the time. 

  10. Why the M62 hard shoulder was closed this morningpublished at 10:24 Greenwich Mean Time 6 February 2017

    If you were held up coming into Leeds this morning and was wondering why the hard shoulder lane on the M62 wasn't open to traffic, it was because of fog.

    Highways England have told us that they can't safely operate the lane when it's this foggy, because they're not able to see on their cameras if a car has broken down in the lane.

    They say someone has to decide if they are able to see "a safe distance", and if they can't, they shut the lane.

    So now you know!

    All but one of the 16 NHS trusts across Yorkshire and the Humber have spent the winter operating at unsafe levels. 

    A total of 85% of beds occupied is recognised as the safe level. Above this, there's an increased risk of infections. 

    In South Yorkshire, Barnsley Hospital Trust had the highest bed occupancy rate in Yorkshire at almost 98%.

    Leeds GP Dr Richard Vautrey represents other GPs at the British Medical Association says not enough money's being spent on social care:

    In West Yorkshire all five trusts in the county had a bed occupancy of over 85%,

    In North Yorkshire all three hospital Trusts had bed occupancy over 90%.

    A pledge is being signed at City Hall in Bradford today to show "zero tolerance" towards female genital mutilation (FGM).

    Around 20,000 girls in the UK are believed to be "at risk" of the outlawed practice which involves cutting intimate parts of the female body.

    Yemi Fagborun  is from Peacemaker International which is based in Bradford.  She's involved in campaigning highlighting the issue.

    Jason Liversidge, who was born in Scarborough, has Motor Neurone Disease. He knows that one day he will lose his voice.  

    His best friend has joined 30 volunteers to help create a computerised voice for him. Jason has become the first person in Yorkshire to benefit from the pioneering scheme. 

    The research project is funded by writer J.K. Rowling.
