    Barwick in Elmet's famous maypole has been removed to get a facelift ahead of a big festival on Bank Holiday Monday. 

     At 86-feet it's said to be the tallest in the country and has quite an interesting background, having been stolen twice and held for ransom.

    A legal hearing into how plans to redevelop Clifford's Tower in York were approved will take place in Leeds at the beginning of May.

    Independent councillor, Johnny Hayes, called for the Judicial review and has started a fundraising campaign to pay for it.

    A judge will look at how the City of York Council made the decision. 

    English Heritage was given the go ahead to build a new visitor centre (artist's impression pictured above) and café on the historic site. 

  6. Sheffield man in court on terror chargespublished at 06:39 British Summer Time 26 April 2017

    A man arrested at Heathrow airport on 18 April has appeared in court charged with terrorism offences.

    Khalil Maher, 21, of Wilfred Close, Sheffield, is accused of planning to join friends in Syria.

    He is charged with preparing to commit acts of terrorism or to assist others in committing such acts.

    Westminster Magistrates' Court heard he intended to plead not guilty. He was remanded in custody and is due to appear at the Old Bailey on 19 May.
