Former Lord Mayor of Leeds jailed for child sex offencespublished at 12:44 British Summer Time 4 July 2017
A former Lord Mayor of Leeds has been jailed for 32 months after admitting eight child sex offences.
Neil Taggart, of Marlowe Court, Garforth, admitted making and distributing indecent photographs of children.
The judge said Taggart's once-high reputation in the community lay "in the gutter".
As well as being Lord Mayor of Leeds in 2003, Taggart also served as chairman of West Yorkshire Police Authority.
He also served as a Leeds Labour councillor for more than 30 years before being deselected by the party in October 2013.
The 65-year-old was sacked from the Labour Party after he was suspended in October when the party became aware of the allegations he was facing.
