A growing army of so-called 'preppers' are turning to Johnsons of Leeds to help them get ready for the collapse of civilisation.

The supplier in Stourton sells survivalist gear which these people are buying in case of a nuclear war, terrorist attack or break-down in law-and-order.

Apparently "bug-out" kits are very popular and contain some crucial items such as nuclear, biological protection, water purification tablets, gas masks and a clean pair of socks and pants.

Only one pair mind. I think of the end of the world came you might need more than one pair of pants.

Detective Inspector Mark Pearson said: "At the times these incidents happened there's a good chance bar and door staff were clocking off or having a break, or revellers were making their way home after a night out.

"I'd appeal to these people in particular to carefully jog their memories of the dates in question - the early hours of July 13 and 15."

    Nick Wilmshurst
    BBC Local Live, Yorkshire

A mum in West Yorkshire says her son is very upset after she says he was sent home with a letter telling her his haircut "won't be acceptable" in September.

    Letter

It's claimed Boston Spa School has sent out the letters ahead of the new school year.

The letter states her son, Joshua, has been "identified" as not having an "acceptable" hairstyle.

They also say that hairstyles at the school should not reflect "youth culture", but Joshua's mum, Sarah, says that if he was working "he wouldn't be told to have a specific haircut."

The letter says if a student comes to school with a "hairstyle that is unacceptable" they will be placed in isolation until it meets their standards.

Sarah describes her son's hair cut as "normal" and that he's not even expressing himself with his hairstyle:

    Boy

Sarah goes onto say that the new rules "teach him nothing about the real world."

In a statement the Boston Spa School says they "As part of our partnership with the Gorse Academies Trust we will be adopting the same hairstyle policy which is already in place.
