  2. Convict who 'thought about killing everyday' made knife in prisonpublished at 14:40 British Summer Time 23 August 2017

    A man jailed for life for murdering a builder in Plymouth told a prison officer he "thought about killing everyday", Leeds Crown Court heard.

    Donald Pemberton (above) was convicted alongside Ryan Williams of murdering Tanis Bhandari (below) near the Kings Arms pub in Tamerton Foliot in 2015.

    The 22-year-old, who was jailed for life with a minimum term of 23 years, was found covered in blood and possessing a makeshift knife by a prison officer at HMP Wakefield in April.

    He had removed the blade from his razor to make an eight-inch weapon and told her that he "could not stop thinking about killing".

    Pemberton, who pleaded guilty to possession of a knife, was jailed for two years concurrent to his original sentence.

    Police are asking for your help to locate a man, external who has been missing for almost a month.

    Robert Trueman, 48, was last seen in Edlington, Doncaster on 28 July after telling his partner he was off to work.

    He has not been seen or heard from since and there are concerns for his welfare.

    Robert is described as being white, medium height with dark grey hair, and of medium build with a red devil tattoo on his arm.

    A crash on the M62 westbound between J24 and J25 is causing just under seven miles of delays this afternoon.

    The air ambulance has been sent to the scene and some people have spoken of delays of about 40 minutes so far.

    Highways England says it doesn't expect the road to be clear again for at least another hour.

    They're in what's called "spate" conditions, which means the number of incidents is outstripping the resources available.

    The emergency services define it in the following terms: "The number of appliances in the existing fleet may not be sufficient to deal with the number of calls being received within normal performance."

    Police in Bradford have published a video of the shocking moment a driver reversed into one of their patrol cars:

    Officers say that the driver backed into their car on Otley Road on Monday and they're now trying to trace the person responsible.

    It caused a lot of damage to their car as you can see:

    There are serious traffic problems in York at the moment as racegoers trying to reach York Knavesmire for the Ebor meeting are diverted due to flooding.

    A man has been arrested after a crash overnight at Oxspring, near Penistone.

    Emergency services were called to a serious road traffic collision at Four Lane Ends at about 12:25 this morning.

    The incident involved a single car containing five occupants.

    A 29-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of driving offences.

    The road is currently closed with diversions in place and it's expected to remain closed throughout the morning.

  14. First million-pound horse race to be staged at Yorkpublished at 12:47 British Summer Time 23 August 2017

    History's due to be made in York this afternoon as the world's top thoroughbreds compete for the city's first million-pound horse race.

    This afternoon, seven of the best horses will battle it out for the record-breaking prize money in the Juddmonte International at the Ebor Festival.

    The festival itself will be on for the next four days and the Juddmonte International will be the richest race ever run at York.

    Away from the track, there are some impressive food stats involved: there will be 80 chefs, 2,000 catering staff, 2,000 crabs delivered from the coast everyday and 3,000 homemade beefburgers will be made.

  19. Flood warnings and alerts for West Yorkshirepublished at 12:24 British Summer Time 23 August 2017

    Following heavy rain in West Yorkshire, three Environment Agency Flood Warnings, external remain in place for Leeds at the moment.

    They are for Wyke Beck at Dunhills in Halton, Wyke Beck at Fearnville and Wyke Beck at Wykebeck Valley Road in Gipton.

    The warning means that flooding is expected and "immediate action is required" by people living and working nearby.

    Meanwhile, Environment Agency Flood Alerts are currently in place at Wyke Beck, Meanwood Beck and Wortley Beck in Leeds.

    The alerts mean that flooding is possible and that people in the affected areas must be prepared.
