Tree campaigners have gathered for a "peaceful protest" outside the depot of Sheffield City Council contractors Amey to mark the start of a court order against direct action.
The High Court injunction, which came into force at midnight and lasts until 25 July next year, means people can't stand within safety barriers when contractors from Amey are felling trees in the city and can't prevent the barriers from being put up.
Peaceful protests outside safety zones are still allowed, so protesters who are upset about the number of roadside trees being felled in Sheffield as part of the council's programme have gathered outside the Olive Grove depot.
About 5,500 trees have been felled in Sheffield since the start of the £2.2bn 25-year programme of works, having been assessed as either dangerous, dead, diseased, dying, damaging or discriminatory. They are being replaced with saplings.
Business leaders and politicians from across northern England are due to meet in Leeds later to discuss transport across the north.
There are calls for the government to invest billions of pounds in projects to improve our railways and roads.
Yesterday, the Northern Powerhouse Minister, Jake Berry, said a high-speed rail line between Liverpool and Hull will happen.
And writing in the Yorkshire Post today, the transport secretary Chris Grayling says the north of England's leaders should "take control" of their own transport networks.
More than 100 people will be at the transport summit and will hear from speakers including the leader of Leeds City Council, Judith Blake.

Sightings of a giant lizard roaming the streets of Halifax have been reported to the police.
Officers in the town have been investigating suspected sightings of a monitor lizard similar to the one pictured above.
Monitor lizards have long necks, powerful tails and claws, with the adult's length ranging from 20cm (7.9 in) in some species to over 3m (10 ft).
They have forked tongues, which they use to detect scents in the air. Many of them are good swimmers and this family includes the largest lizard on Earth, the Komodo dragon.
So far the police in Halifax haven't found anything, but some people in the area suspect an illegal pet has got loose.

York Minster has recruited a new band of volunteer bell-ringers after the entire previous ringing team was sacked last October over what the Minster described as safeguarding issues.
Several members of the former band are included in the new team which will get together for the first time next month.
The Minster's 12 bells were silent on Christmas Day for the first time in more than 600 years after the break-up of the bell-ringing team.
One group of campanologists from Leeds reportedly refused to help out, in solidarity with their sacked York colleagues.
The Chapter said it disbanded the team after ringers refused to accept a decision not to reinstate one member, who had been suspended following a police investigation into allegations of sex offending against children which did not lead to a prosecution.
A Minster spokeswoman said more than 40 applications were received from York and the wider region and the new band will be led by headteacher Angela Mitchell.

The north of England's leaders should "take control" of their own transport networks, Chris Grayling has said.
Writing in the Yorkshire Post, external, the transport secretary said: "The success of northern transport depends on the North itself."
The article comes ahead of a transport summit in the region to be attended by local leaders and businesses.
Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham said the event shows "the patience of people... has run out".
In the article, Mr Grayling said while one of his "biggest priorities" was to build transport links in the North, it was down to the region to design and manage them.
