  18. Sheffield tree protestors warned as demo growspublished at 10:15 British Summer Time 23 August 2017

    Andy Kershaw
    BBC Radio Sheffield News

More tree campaigners have turned up to what they're calling a "peaceful protest" outside the Olive Grove depot of Sheffield City Council contractors Amey.

Now Amey officials have warned them that the police have been called.

Protesting outside the depot where arborists' vehicles leave to cut down trees is a new tactic.

It comes just hours after a High Court injunction came into force stopping people from taking direct action to prevent trees being removed.

    Demonstrators at Olive Grove

Anyone breaking the order will be in contempt of court and could face a fine or even a prison sentence.

Campaigners at Olive Grove this morning say their protest isn't breaking the injunction.

About 5,500 trees have been felled in Sheffield since the start of the council's £2.2bn 25-year programme of works, having been assessed as either dangerous, dead, diseased, dying, damaging or discriminatory - meaning restricting access or otherwise unhelpfully placed'. They are being replaced with saplings.
