"As I reflected on the call to this incredibly exciting role, some words of GK Chesterton came to mind: 'There are two ways of getting home, and one of them is to stay there. The other is to walk round the whole world until we come back to the same place'," says Bishop Hartley.

"I can’t wait to get to know the people and communities of the Ripon area," she adds.

But there's already a Christmas lights battle brewing in Sheffield.

Businesses in Greenhill and Bradway are going head-to-head in a "tree-off" in what will hopefully remain a friendly rivalry between now and when Santa arrives.

Chris Key, who's in charge of all things festive at Greenhill, says he has high hopes even though they're new kids on the block when it comes to Christmas lights:

Bradway are seasoned professionals when it comes to Christmas lights, as they've been playing this game for many years.

Mick, who runs the butchers in the village, gave me a sneak peak as to what you can expect from them this year:

Annabelle AddisonImage source, North Yorkshire Police

Annabelle Addison has not been seen since about 21:00 on Saturday 4 November and she was reported missing at lunchtime on Sunday.

She has gone missing before but she has previously returned home within 24 hours, say police

Annabelle is considered vulnerable due to her age and it's believed she has no money or a telephone.

It's believed she left Scarborough on a train and is possibly in the company of a boy her own age who she knows.

Sgt Tom Rollinson says police, family and friends are all "extremely worried" about Annabelle and are asking her, or anyone with information about her whereabouts, to get in touch.

As well as North Yorkshire, Annabelle has links in the Leicester, Northampton, West Midlands and Merseyside and Norfolk areas.

She's described as white, of slim build, fair skinned, with very dark long straight hair which is usually scrunched up.

When she was last seen, she was wearing a blue jumper and a black jumper, pink Mini Mouse pyjama bottoms with grey jogging bottoms over the top, a black Superdry jacket and black and white Adidas trainers.

  13. Billings: 'A force moving from a poor position'published at 12:44

South Yorkshire's Police and Crime Commissioner says the force is "travelling in the right direction" after it was judged by the police watchdog to "require improvement".

    Dr Alan Billings

The comment by Alan Billings comes after the publication of a report by Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary into the performance of the South Yorkshire force.

The report look at how well the force understands and manages demand and how well resourced it is to deal with it, both now and in the future.

Dr Billings says that while inspectors believe South Yorkshire Police still has some work to do, they "clearly recognise" the force is on the right track and he points to many positive developments.

He added that issues around the 101 non-emergency number are "being dealt with" and that neighbourhood policing is being "brought back":

At least four masked men were involved and used a telehandler - usually used on farms and industrial plants - to rip one of the cash machines from the wall of Morrisions on Wetherby Road in Boroughbridge just after 02:15.

The men loaded the ATM onto a white flat-bed van - but as they did so police arrived, a dog section vehicle was rammed by the flat-bed van and the men left in a Mercedes car.

They abandoned the ATM at the scene and didn't stop for armed police - officers say they think the men were heading for the East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire area.

It follows two similar attacks at a supermarket in Whitby and in the village of Bishopthorpe near York.

Scientists at the University of Sheffield have captured the first ever footage of a wild otter in the Peak District as part of a study which could help recover their population.

    Take a look:

The pictures were captured by a research team led by the university's Department of Animal and Plant Sciences and findings from the study could help to make recommendations to improve habitat for otters and their prey, which could help the recovering otter population.

    Quote Message

To have camera footage and know otters are moving around the Peak District is really exciting, and the potential to use spraint DNA to identify this specific individual and its diet makes it all the more personal.”
