  1. Two Yorkshire police forces must improve - Watchdogpublished at 06:50 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November 2017

North and South Yorkshire's police forces need to make changes, according to the latest report by the police watchdog.

Last year, North Yorkshire was rated as "good" - but now needs to do more, according to Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary.

The drop in the forces' ratings was because more needed doing to identify and reduce inefficient processes, inspectors said.

The report also calls for more work on equipping officers with the most appropriate technology and doing more to understand its growing communities.

The South Yorkshire Police force has been graded as "requires improvement", while West Yorkshire Police, external is rated as "good".

Things are returning to normal, in the North at least, after yesterday's 24-hour industrial action.

However, workers for three rail operators are continuing a 48-hour strike action with Southern, Greater Anglia and South Western Railways services all affected.

In Yorkshire, though, things appear to be running pretty smoothly so far.
