    Police in North Yorkshire are searching for a missing 12-year-girl.

    Skye Austin (pictured), from the Malton area, has not been seen since leaving home at around 20:30 yesterday.

    Officers believe she is currently somewhere in the Malton/Norton area and say she may be wearing pyjamas.

    She is described as white and of slim build.

    Police are are urging the public to report any possible sightings immediately.

    New forensic techniques that reduce the time taken to help process crime scene investigations have been introduced across Yorkshire.

    It relates to the gathering of evidence like fingerprints and footprints.

    The project's introduced the digital transmission of forensic evidence and means results are available to detectives almost immediately instead of taking days.

    After a cold and frosty start, it will be a dry day across the region with some good spells of sunshine.

  5. Revised Trans-Pennine tunnel to be shorterpublished at 06:55 Greenwich Mean Time 18 December 2017

    Revised proposals for a road tunnel between Sheffield and Manchester have been drawn up as part of a transport plan for the north.

    The new Trans-Pennine tunnel would be shorter than the 20-miles currently proposed and include major upgrades to the A628.

    Transport for the North (TfN) said the new route would also be cheaper to construct.

    The revised idea will be presented to the Government by the end of next year.

    Last year, the Department for Transport unveiled five possible routes for a multi-billion-pound tunnel to link the M60 motorway east of Manchester to the M1 north of Sheffield.

    More than 500 homes in North Yorkshire are getting back to normal this morning after enduring a weekend of freezing temperatures without a gas supply.

    A large gas leak in the Helmsley, Nawton and Beadlam area caused the supply to go off on Friday afternoon.

    Northern Gas says its now managed to reconnect most of the homes, although last night around 90 were still without a supply.

    Supplies were lost to 600 properties in Helmsley, Nawton and Beadlam on Friday when the gas main "collapsed" at 16:00 during routine repair work.

    Engineers are expected to reconnect the remaining homes later.

  7. On the roads: M62 'serious collision'published at 06:31 Greenwich Mean Time 18 December 2017

    There'll be big hold-ups for commuters on the M62 this morning following a serious accident in the early hours near Bradford.

    It happened at the bottom of the M606 near Bradford, which has been closed off southbound.

    The M62 is closed westbound at Junction 26.

    Drivers are being urged to allow extra time to their journey to follow diversions.
