  1. Bradford fire mill used to store tyrespublished at 11:30 Greenwich Mean Time 19 December 2017

    A Bradford mill which has been badly damaged by a fire overnight was being used to store tyres according to West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service (WYFRS).

    The fire in Rebecca Street started in the basement of the mill at about 03:30 and 15 fire engines were sent to the scene.

    The blaze moved upwards through the building and spread to the roof, but WYFRS say that they managed to contain the fire to one part of the building complex.

    They say that they managed to save "a number of other commercial properties" - no one was injured.

    MPs are calling for a "comprehensive strategy" to boost the steel sector ahead of Brexit.

    They want ministers to cut energy costs, prevent imports of cheap steel and promote the use of UK steel for major projects.

    British Steel in Scunthorpe used to be owned by Tata Steel who's main research and development centre is in Rotherham.

  3. Selby CCTV appeal: Woman in suspected theft from Tescopublished at 10:56 Greenwich Mean Time 19 December 2017

    Police in Selby are appealing for help in identify a woman in connection with the theft of £200 worth of goods from a supermarket in the town.

    The incident happened at the Portholme Road Tesco store at about 17:30 on Tuesday.

    Officers say the woman in the CCTV image collected various goods in a trolley before leaving it in an aisle.

    An unknown man then took the trolley from the store without making any attempt to pay.

    People are being urged to come forward with any information that could assist the investigation.

    North East Counter Terrorism Police say a fourth address in Sheffield has been raided as part of a series of anti-terror arrests.

    A raid in Stocksbridge came after three others in the city.

    In all, two homes in the Burngreave area were raided, one address in Meersbrook and one address in Stocksbridge.

    Police say the investigation is "Islamist related".

    The bomb squad has been called to an address in Chesterfield and people living nearby are being evacuated.

    The raid in Chesterfield at Whittington Moor has led to Cavendish Junior School keeping children inside as a precaution.

    The men arrested in Sheffield are 22, 36 and 41. The man arrested in Chesterfield is 31.

    Plans to charge second home owners in the Yorkshire Dales five times more for their council tax are due to be discussed today.

    It's thought the Park Authority is the first council in the country to look at doing this.

    Almost a quarter of properties in the park are either second homes or holiday lets, and the authority says it's pricing younger people and families out of the area.

    Doncaster Council is set to make at least 135 people redundant as budget proposals for 2018-2021 reveal £60m of cuts.

    Council tax in Doncaster is set to rise by £50 a year for each of the next three years.

    The local authority has to make £16.9m of savings in 2018/19 & £43.3m for 2018/19 to 2020/21.

    The Council says the high cost of adult social care, pay and price inflation along with cuts from central government are the cause.

    What people are allowed to put near or on the grave of a loved one is to be more vigorously enforced in Scarborough.

    A resident in Meersbrook has described the moment counter terrorism officers swooped on a house on Shirebrook Road this morning as part of four coordinated arrests at different addresses in Sheffield and Chesterfield.

    Elizabeth Fogarty says she and her partner had only recently moved to Sheffield from London in part because of how unsafe they felt in the capital.

    Counter terrorism police have confirmed that the house in Meersbrook currently being guarded by police was one of the addresses they raided this morning.

    Officers from Counter Terrorism Policing North East have told BBC Radio Sheffield the loud bang heard by residents on Shirebrook Road was "part of the method of entry and nothing untoward".

    Four men, three from Sheffield and one from Chesterfield have been arrested this morning on suspicion of being concerned in the commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism under section 41 of the Terrorism Act 2000.

    Officers from Counter Terrorism Policing North East have this morning arrested four men from South Yorkshire and Derbyshire on suspicion of terrorism offences.

    Three properties in Sheffield and one in Chesterfield are currently being searched in connection with the arrests.

    The men aged 22, 36, 41 and 31 have been taken to a police station in West Yorkshire for questioning.

    The Counter Terrorism Unit says the arrests were intelligence led and pre-planned as part of an ongoing investigation by Counter Terrorism Policing North East.

    A police statement says it recognises local people may have concerns and that they should remain alert but not alarmed.

    There are reports of some sort of explosion in the Meersbrook area of Sheffield this morning, according to residents who have spoken to BBC Radio Sheffield.

    What was described as a boom was heard six miles away across the city in Handsworth, waking people at 05:30.

    Officers are now searching a house on Shirebrook Road.

    Detectives investigating the murder of Tyron Charles in Bradford in September have made more arrests.

    As a result three people have been charged with further offences.

    Kevin Sutcliffe, 60, James Sutcliffe, 28 and Janet Sutcliffe, 61, all of ‪Hill Crest Road, ‬Denholme have been charged with conspiracy to pervert the course of justice and possession of extreme pornography. James Sutcliffe has additionally been charged with voyeurism.

    James Sutcliffe has previously been charged with the murder of Tyron Charles and is remanded in custody.

    All three are due to appear at Bradford Magistrates Court later today.

    Plans to massively increase council tax on second homes in the Yorkshire Dales are being discussed later.

    It's thought the Park Authority is the first council in the country to look at doing this.

    Almost a quarter of properties in the park are either second homes or holiday lets, and the authority says it wants to attract younger people and families.

    More than £100m of road improvements are expected to get the backing of officials in Kirklees today.

    A meeting this afternoon will look at early plans for road improvements around Huddersfield, which include two new link roads near the M62.

    Final approval for the plans are expected in the spring.
