Eighty firefighters using breathing apparatus were called out to Rebecca Street, near White Abbey Road just after 03:30 this morning.

The Fire Service says half of the building was alight.

Fire crews remain on the scene this morning and an investigation is now underway.

There are no reports of any injuries.

    BBC Weather

Dry this morning with some bright spells, after a chilly start in places.

Some clear spells tonight across eastern areas, but generally it will be cloudy and also milder than last night.

Light rain or drizzle and hill fog will develop across the Pennines.

  3. Grandparents 'run up debts' to care for grandchildrenpublished at 06:59 Greenwich Mean Time 19 December 2017

Grandparents are running up large debts raising children whose parents cannot look after them, surveys have found.

Nearly 200,000 children in the UK are being raised by a family member other than their parents and findings show the burden often falls on grandparents.

    Maureen Seed and grandson

Maureen Seed, from Wakefield, West Yorkshire, looked after two of her grandchildren for 16 years because of her daughter's drug problems.

She amassed about £20,000 of credit card debt and is facing bankruptcy.

Surveys by two family charities of kinship carers - people who look after grandchildren or the children of other family of friends - suggest her case is not unusual.

One found more than a third of carers used a credit card to buy food, while a similar number missed paying a bill.

  4. Sowerby Bridge incinerator Protestpublished at 06:45 Greenwich Mean Time 19 December 2017

A protest will be held outside Halifax Town Hall later, as Calderdale Council debates plans for a new incinerator.

Hundreds of demonstrators are expected, because they say the waste-to-energy plant will bring noise, pollution and traffic congestion to Sowerby Bridge:

The company that wants to build the incinerator, Calder Valley Skip Hire, says it will keep waste out of landfill sites and mean less congestion.
