Officers were called to Fenby Avenue at about 11:30 after a report of a window being damaged by what was believed to be a firearm.

Firearms officers attended and confirmed the damage to be consistent with a discharge. No injuries were reported.

A burned-out car found in Brompton Road a short time later may be linked to the incident, police say.

Det Ch Insp Jaz Khan said: "We would be keen to hear from anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity in the area, or anyone who saw a vehicle driving away from the area at speed."

A disability rights campaigner from Leeds is calling for more railway stations to have places for people to get changed in.

Colin McDonnell has a rare condition called Type 1 Glutaric Aciduria, which can lead to a lack of muscle control.

He wants more stations to bring in rooms where disabled adults can change safely and with "some dignity".

Network Rail says it's committed to putting passengers at the heart of its designs.

Colin's mum, Susan, says the rooms can make a huge difference to people's lives:

The 16-year-old was walking to school near the National Railway Museum on the city's Leeman Road at about 08:45 yesterday morning when a man approached her and told her to "walk".

The girl managed to get away from the man, but was then approached by another man, but it's not known if the two are connected.

Anyone with information about the incident is being asked to contact police.

  14. Listen: Safety fears spark Sheffield tree-felling 'pause'published at 08:59 Greenwich Mean Time 25 January 2018

Sheffield's tree-felling programme has been paused because city council contractor Amey is concerned about the safety of its arborists and stewards in the face of continuing protests.

There have been daily clashes at Meersbrook Park Road for more than a week.

The tree-felling and replacement programme is part of Sheffield City Council's £2bn Streets Ahead project, which the authority says is to improve roads and footpaths in the city.

About 5,500 trees have been cut down since 2012.

The authority insists those earmarked for felling are either "dangerous, dead, diseased, dying, damaging or discriminatory".

However, campaigners say many of the trees classed by the council as "damaging" or "discriminatory" are healthy specimens which should not be cut down.

David Butt, from Streets Ahead, has told BBC Radio Sheffield's Toby Foster why he was temporarily halting the tree-felling programme:

Leeds branding expert Nick Wayne told Johnny I'Anson at BBC Radio Leeds the club may well have rushed into things and must now listen to the fans:

  18. Listen: Long-delayed York expansion plans 'lack ambition'published at 08:09 Greenwich Mean Time 25 January 2018

It's taken two decades to work out what York should look like over the next 15 years, but business leaders in the city say the long-delayed Local Plan still "lacks ambition" and will "hold back the city's economy".

The blueprint for development in the city is expected to be approved by senior councillors later, but the York and North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce says it's not good enough

Its members say the plan doesn't include enough housing or land for businesses to develop.

Eamonn Keogh, from the Chamber of Commerce, thinks the government will throw the plan out:

  19. Elderly Rotherham man targeted by bogus officialspublished at 07:54 Greenwich Mean Time 25 January 2018

An e-fit appeal is being made by police after a "substantial" amount of money was stolen by bogus officials from a 74-year-old Rotherham man.

E-fit imageImage source, West Yorkshire Police

The theft happened at about 17:30 on Tuesday 16 January after two men knocked on the door of a property in Kimberworth Park.

The men claimed to be from the water authority, saying there was a problem with the water, and asked to be let inside.

It's thought one man kept the victim in the kitchen while the other searched the property upstairs before they both left after about 15 minutes.

The victim later found that a "significant" sum of cash had been taken and items within the property had been damaged.

Anyone who recognised the man pictured in the e-fit image above, or who saw any suspicious activity in the area at the time, is being asked to contact police.
