    Secondary Schools in Yorkshire are being forced to drop creative subjects like music, art and drama according to a BBC survey.

    Nearly two thirds of schools in North, West and South Yorkshire have been forced to drop creative subjects.

    Teachers' leaders and unions say it follows budget cuts and government curriculum changes but the Department for Education says funding for the arts has increased since 2011.

    The inquest into the death of an 11-year-old girl from Halifax will open later today.

    Ursula Keogh's body was found in a brook, after she went missing following school last week.

    Police are continuing to investigate her death and have asked people to avoid speculation on social media about what happened.

    Children's services once mired in a child sexual exploitation scandal have been "transformed", government inspectors have said.

    Rotherham Council has been given an overall "good" rating following an Ofsted inspection in November.

    The service had been judged to be failing following 2014's Jay Report, external, which found up to 1,400 children were sexually abused between 1997 and 2013.

    Ofsted said the authority had made "significant improvement".

    South Yorkshire firefighters were in action in Barnsley last night:

    Four fire engines were called out to the blaze at a derelict building at 20:00 in the Cundy Cross area of the town.

    South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service say the top floor of the building was on fire when crews arrived.

    Firefighters stayed at the scene until about midnight and say the fire is believed to have been started deliberately.

    Ailsa Barr, head of service for the locality and disability social work teams at Rotherham council, has been explaining why she chose to stay working for the council after the town’s child sexual exploitation scandal was exposed.

    She is among the 75% of the children's services current workforce that was at the local authority when Alexis Jay’s independent report exposed the child sexual exploitation suffered by 1,400 children in August 2014.

    Today's Ofsted inspection report rated Rotherham children's services good overall and she says the changes have been felt though the whole local authority:

    It is believed a fire in a flat in Sheffield yesterday was started deliberately.

    Emergency services were called to Spring Close View at Gleadless in the early hours of the morning.

    No one was home at the time although a number of pets were found in the property, the fire service says an automatic sprinkler system stopped the fire from spreading to other flats.

    Four friends from Sheffield are setting off to the Himalayas today to attempt a Guiness World Record.

    All four play for the Don Valley Vikings ice hockey team and they're aiming to play the highest altitude ice hockey game in the world.

    It's a charity event setup by The Hockey Foundation.

    Police want to speak to them after an armed robbery at a shop in Leeds yesterday.

    It happened just before 19:45 at McColl’s on Stainbeck Road in Meanwood.

    Two masked men armed with a crowbar and a saw went into the shop and threatened the staff and stole cash from the till.

    Det Insp Ciaran Whoriskey from West Yorkshire Police said: “We are carrying out extensive enquiries and would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or saw the men."

    York Pullman has taken on 15 staff from the bus company Stephensons of Easingwold.

    The firm ceased trading last week.

    York Pullman's bought the Stephenson trading name - along with its website and phone numbers.

    It's also taken over running buses on some school routes that used to be operated by Stephensons.
