  2. Sheffield's yellow 'dockless' bikes scheme to expandpublished at 15:33 Greenwich Mean Time 27 February 2018

    More yellow dockless bikes will be introduced to Sheffield after a "successful launch" earlier this year.

    Ofo, the company behind the bike scheme, says it will add 300 more cycles to the steel city after more than 6,000 people signed up to use the service since January.

    It also said more than 28,000 journeys had been made on the bicycles which are rented by users with a smartphone app.

    The bikes cost 50p for 30 minutes and can be picked up and dropped off anywhere that allows bike parking.

    The Ofo bikes scheme is also set to expand in to Leeds later this year.

    Three people have been arrested on suspicion of possession with the intent to supply Class A and B drugs in Sheffield.

    Officers raided a house in the Arbourthorne area of the city and found drugs stuffed down the toilet.

    Two adults and one juvenile were arrested and have since been released under investigation.

    The family of this man from Halifax say they're concerned for his welfare after he was reported missing:

    Michael McGarry, aged 54, was reported missing yesterday and was last seen in Heptonstall.

    He walks with a limp and sometimes wears glasses.

    If you see him, call West Yorkshire Police on 101.

  5. Plan for food production engineering centrepublished at 14:47 Greenwich Mean Time 27 February 2018

    A planning application has been submitted by Sheffield Hallam University for a new National Centre of Excellence for Food Engineering.

    The application includes plans for the university to build alongside the existing Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park building.

    The proposed centre will include new laboratories, workshops and teaching spaces for projects focusing on the engineering processes of food production.

    If the application is successful, work could begin as early as July.

    A 28-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of murder following the discovery of a woman's body in Rotherham on Sunday has been released under investigation.

    Detectives say they are still checking the circumstances surrounding the death of a 29-year-old woman.

    Her body was found by emergency services after they were called to a house in the Pitt Street area of the town last Sunday.

    A post-mortem examination determined the cause of death as "hanging".

    Former Sheffield United player turned boxer, Curtis Woodhouse, says the death of Scott Westgarth makes him "question the morality" of boxing, but would never advise anyone to stop the sport.

    He made the comments on BBC Radio 5 Live this morning following the sudden death of 31-year-old Westgate after a fight in Doncaster over the weekend.

    The Hull-based MEP for Yorkshire and the Humber Mike Hookem has been appointed deputy leader of UKIP.

    Mr Hookem, who joined the party 10 years ago, was appointed by the current interim leader Gerard Batten.

    There has been movement within the party since former leader Henry Bolton was sacked a few weeks ago.

    Two women who took money accidently left at a cash machine in Harrogate are wanted by the police.

    The incident happened at the Asda supermarket on Bower Road at about 14:40 on 6 February.

    Police have now released CCTV images of the women they want to talk to.

    Officers believe they took cash left at the ATM by a previous user without making an attempt to hand it in.

    Anyone with information about the women is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police.

    But an athletic group called "Runners Against Rubbish" are trying to do something about it.

    They've started a new trend that is gathering momentum in the city.

    The government's being urged to speed up construction of flood defence schemes in West Yorkshire.

    The Labour MP for Leeds West, Rachel Reeves, told Parliament that many properties are still vulnerable - over two years after the last serious floods.

    Phase one of the Leeds Flood Alleviation Scheme has seen flood defences installed, external along the river for the first time.

    But the MP says money for the second part of the scheme hasn't been released by ministers and that places in the city - like Kirkstall - are still at risk of flooding.

    The Met Office is warning, external people to be prepared for worsening conditions as more snow is forecast across this afternoon and overnight.

    Over 50 schools have been forced to close today in North Yorkshire and conditions on some roads remain hazardous.

    The A171 at Whitby is partially blocked in both directions and two cars have come off it on Bluebank near Sleights (pictured).

    When Leeds-born Ernie Wise recorded an episode of his comedy show with Eric Morecambe in 1968, little did they realise that 50 years later it would take cutting-edge technology to bring it back to life.

    Once thought unsalvageable by experts, the badly damaged old film was scanned using X-rays, then an algorithmic reconstruction method was used to digitally reconstruct the images.

    Now they have 30 seconds of restored film which can be seen for the first time in decades.

    The amount of money spent on transport in the north of England will be debated in Parliament today.

    The Hull North Labour MP Diana Johnson has secured the debate, claiming that funding for rail and road infrastructure in the north is much less than London and the South East.

    The Department for Transport said it is carrying out the biggest investment in transport for the north of England to help build the Northern Powerhouse and deliver improved journeys for passengers.
