Motorists in West Yorkshire are being warned by police not to include the M62 in their travel plans.
The motorway is currently closed in both directions between J24 and J21 due to high winds and Greater Manchester Police say it's set to stay shut "indefinitely".
Diversionary routes are busy and there are "significant traffic delays" on those roads, police say.
Officers are advising motorists to avoid the area, to only follow the marked diversion route and not to use sat navs.

A stretch of the M62 will stay closed into the weekend because of snow and ice, the BBC understands.
Greater Manchester Police has announced the motorway will be closed "indefinitely" between junction 20 at Rochdale and junction 24, Huddersfield.
Posting on Twitter, Matt Stewart said: "I was at junction 21 - no-one knows anything on there.
"It's an absolute shambles. I went to the top of a hill and it looks clear of snow as far as I can see."
Police have also warned motorists to "adhere to all road closure signs" as people have driven past them and then got stuck in snow.
Passengers currently pay between 30p and 50p to use toilets at Network Rail-run stations.

Local residents opened up Butterworth Hall in Milnrow overnight to make tea and toast for people stranded when the M62 motorway closed.
Rochdale councillor Irene Davidson was one of those who turned out to help.
She told BBC Breakfast that volunteers climbed up the motorway embankment to offer people in their cars food, shelter and a bed for the night:
Quote MessageI'd say we’ve fed well over 250 people now and we've got more coming in. They are so grateful. People have been sending me messages from all over the country – it’s been absolutely wonderful."

South Yorkshire Police are asking for help in finding 15-year-old Riley Reside who was last seen leaving his home in Denaby Main on Sunday 18 February.
He did return home briefly on Wednesday 21 February but left once more and there has now been no sightings of the teenager for over a week, however he is understood to have contacted a friend recently.
It's thought he may have travelled to the Rotherham area and as concern for Riley's welfare continues to grow, the force is urging people pass on any information via 101.
