    We told you earlier about five cavers who were rescued at the weekend after a full-scale operation was launched to find them.

    The incident happened at Providence Pot, near Kettlewell, in the Yorkshire Dales, and the good news is that they were all found safe.

    A man has been charged in connection with a cannabis factory, believed to be worth £3.5m, found in Nottingham.

    The 35-year-old from Bradford, appeared before Nottingham Magistrates' Court charged with nine offences including kidnap, production of cannabis and holding a person for slavery.

    He was remanded into custody and will appear before Nottingham Crown Court next month.

    Police discovered the cannabis in Palmerston House, on Mount Street, in August last year.

    Speaker for the Green group on Sheffield City Council Rob Murphy was selected by members in a recent ballot.

    Mr Murphy will stand provided the £8000 required for the deposit and mailing to electors can be fundraised.

    The heating engineer has worked across the region as well as serving as a councillor for City ward.

    An elderly woman has been robbed right outside her own home in Bradford.

    The woman - who is in her 90s - was going inside her home on Hollingwood Lane yesterday lunchtime when a man followed her through the door and pushed her over.

    He took her purse, which had £30 in it and left. The woman was uninjured.

    West Yorkshire police say they're looking for a tall white man, who is thought to be in his 40s, with dark hair and a moustache.

    A 24-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder, external following the fatal stabbing of a Sheffield father-of-three.

    The man, from Pitsmoor, was arrested this morning over the death of Jarvin Blake.

    He was also arrested on suspicion of attempted wounding and perverting the course of justice.

    Mr Blake, 22, was fatally stabbed during an incident in the Burngreave area of Sheffield just after 15:00 on Thursday 8 March.

    A 23-year-old man also injured during the incident, is now in a stable condition.

    Anyone who has information has been asked to report it via 101 quoting incident number 758 of the 23rd of February.

    An online voucher discount site surveyed 2,000 women and claims that more than a third of them from Yorkshire's biggest city said their husbands and partners had no dress sense whatsoever.

    The results from the survey also claim that 18% have actually thrown clothes they disapproved of in the bin.

    Old trainers, baggy jeans, band t-shirts and baseball caps were all on the list of items the researchers found were unacceptable to women.

    The Barnsley MP Dan Jarvis and the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for the Environment, Thérèse Coffey will help plant the first trees in the new "Northern Forest" today.

    The 25-year project will see the planting of 50 million trees across the north of England, and the creation of a new, 120-mile, northern forest which will stretch from Liverpool across to Hull and include all of South Yorkshire.

    Smithills, the Woodland Trust's newly-acquired urban fringe site near Bolton, is the site of the first planting.

    The Trust, external says the scheme will deliver major environmental, social and economic benefits that complement the significant growth, investment and new infrastructure that is planned for the north of England.

    Five men have been arrested after a gun was fired in Bradford yesterday - police say they think it's linked to a string of incidents over the weekend.

    The gun was fired in Wansford Close, Holmewood at about 22:20 - only a window frame was damaged and no-one was injured.

    West Yorkshire Police say they believe it was linked to a series of incidents in the area over the weekend including damaged vehicles and an aggravated burglary.

    Five men, aged between 17 and 32, have been arrested and are still in custody.

    The comedian Bernie Clifton has been paying tribute to Sir Ken Dodd who has died at the age of 90.

    The BBC Radio Sheffield presenter worked alongside the comedy legend at the Leeds City Varieties and was at his 90th celebration lunch last October.

    He told the BBC that "a big light had gone out" and "there will never be another".

    He also recalled how he was inspired by a performance Sir Ken Dodd gave in East Yorkshire many years ago.

    Five cavers are recovering after being rescued in North Yorkshire.

    They had been reported overdue from their trip to Providence Pot, near Kettlewell, in the Yorkshire Dales, at the weekend.

    North Yorkshire Police called in the Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association to try and find them.

    The lost cavers were eventually found safe but very cold.

    The team was helped by North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, Yorkshire Ambulance Service, North Yorkshire Police, the Cave Rescue Organisation and Derbyshire Cave Rescue Organisation.

  19. Man in serious condition after crash shuts M621published at 10:16 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March 2018

    A man has been left in a serious condition after a crash this morning which has closed the M621 eastbound from J27 of the M62.

    West Yorkshire Police say the 24-year-old crashed at about 03:45, with no other cars involved.

    Officers say he hit a road sign and then it's understood the car overturned.

    He had to be cut out by fire and rescue crews.

    The road is still closed, meaning traffic is queuing on the M62 towards Leeds
