Read MoreSouth Yorkshire residents face an increase of 7.6% in the money they contribute towards policing the county in the 12 months ahead, the Police and Crime Commissioner has announced.
In real terms that means an additional £12 on the council tax bill of a property in Band D, though large numbers of homes in the county are in Band A, where the change will mean an increase of £8 per year, with householders with homes in that banding paying £113.44 a year towards policing.
The decision to impose the increase - when inflation is running at 3% - was taken following a government ruling that the South Yorkshire force could have the same £186.4m next year as it has received this year - but only if the bill to council tax payers were increased to the new level.
Police and Crime Commissioner Dr Alan Billings took the decision only after consultations with 452 residents across the county.
From those, 80% agreed to the increase.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct has decided not to refer three former South Yorkshire Police officers to the Crown Prosecution Service after an investigation into allegations of a "cover-up" by the force following the Hillsborough disaster.
The IOPC, formerly the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC), investigated allegations that three senior officers participated in a strategy to minimise the force's culpability for the disaster by wrongly blaming Liverpool fans.
In particular, it is alleged that officers sought to deliberately mislead the Lord Justice Taylor inquiry, the contributions hearing and the original inquest proceedings.
The IOPC said although there was some indication that two of the three former officers may have committed a criminal offence, it was not deemed appropriate to refer their cases because the CPS had already rejected the possibility of bringing criminal charges based on evidence reviewed in 2016 and no further evidence had since been identified that could realistically alter that view.
The CPS has also announced that they will not be charging two former senior West Midlands Police officers in relation to the investigation conducted by the force into the causes of the disaster.
Six men, including match commander David Duckenfield, already face charges relating to the disaster on 15 April 1989 where 96 Liverpool fans died in the crush at Hillsborough stadium.
