  1. Book of condolence for 'voice of Yorkshire Cricket'published at 07:22 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2018

    A book of condolence has been opened today for BBC Yorkshire's cricket commentator Dave Callaghan.

    Dave Callaghan who died last Monday

    He was widely regarded as the voice of Yorkshire cricket and died on Monday after being taken ill on Friday night.

    The book will be at the reception of BBC Yorkshire in Leeds from this morning until Friday and can be signed between 10:00 and 14:00.

    It will then be given to Dave's family.

    A new computer system, meant to speed up the way South Yorkshire Police deals with calls from the public - due to go live in the next few weeks - has been delayed because of technical difficulties.

    The Force has been working on the new Smart Connect system for two years to replace its outdated software, which is partly blamed for the long delays callers using the 101 telephone number.

    It was scheduled to be operational this month or next, but the Police and Crime Commissioner Dr Alan Billings says it has been "put back a bit".

    There isn't a date for the system to become active.

    What's believed to be West Yorkshire's oldest mosque has been recognised in a new list of buildings with historical or cultural interest.

    Howard Street Mosque in Bradford is Grade Two-listed by Historic England - because of its importance as a house which has been converted into a place of worship.

    Heritage Minister Michael Ellis said listing the mosques preserved important places of worship and celebrated the rich heritage of Muslim communities in England.

    The new and upgraded listings come as a result of research for the heritage agency's new book The British Mosque.

    North Yorkshire Police are warning people to hide their car keys after another two cars were stolen in a "two in one" burglary.

    The burglars had broken into the house on Sawyers Crescent in York and stole the keys for two vehicles which were parked outside.
