    One of the main routes into Rotherham - the at A631 Worrygoose Island - has been reduced to one lane due to an emergency water leak.

    All approaches to the roundabout are currently restricted to one lane.

    They include:

    A631 East Bawtry Road,

    B6410 Worrygoose Lane,

    A6123 Herringthorpe Valley Rd

    and B6410 Broom Lane.

    A scientist from Barnsley has won an award at the Alzheimer's Research UK Conference in London.

    Dr Selina Wray has been investigating how a particular protein, which builds up in the brain during Alzheimer's disease and frontotemporal dementia, causes damage to nerve cells in the brain.

    She will receive £25,000 in research expenses and also a £1,500 personal prize.

  4. Harrogate College strike ballot over job cut planspublished at 13:51 Greenwich Mean Time 21 March 2018

    Staff at Harrogate College in North Yorkshire are being asked whether they want to go on strike.

    The University and College Union says it's over plans to axe over 230 jobs within the Hull College Group.

    The organisation which has sites in Harrogate, Hull and Goole, has begun a restructuring plan to deal with a £10m budget deficit.

    Union officials say the redundancies would see about a third of the workforce cut.

    A strike ballot's due to open on Friday.

    Here's the first photograph of cracks which have appeared in a cliff-top path on Scarborough's South Cliff.

    Katie Noon, from the Clock Cafe (pictured below, before the cracking set in), says she found out about the cracks in front of the cafe on Saturday when a dog walker posted pictures on their website.

    She says: "I didn't think it looked too bad in the pictures, but when I saw the cracks I realised it was a lot worse than I'd thought.

    "The cracks are about three or four feet deep and the full width of the path in places.

    "It's meant our deliveries have been affected and wheelchair users or people with prams are having difficulty getting to us. But we're on hand to help and are staying open."

    The area's been cordoned-off and people who own chalets on the cliff have been told they can't go in to collect their belongings.

    The cracked footpath is likely to remain closed for some time, according to Scarborough Borough Council.

  6. Three arrested after 'targeted' attacks in Castlefordpublished at 13:17 Greenwich Mean Time 21 March 2018

    Three people have been arrested on suspicion of firearms offences following two incidents in Castleford which police believe are linked.

    The were arrested this morning from addresses in the town on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

    The arrests follow the discharge of a firearm at a vehicle on Airedale Road at about 15:15 on Tuesday and criminal damage to another vehicle, on Kershaw Avenue, between 15:00 and 16:00.

    Both vehicles were owned by the same victim.

    Det Insp Dan Tillett, of Wakefield District CID, says: "We are linking these two incidents, which are being treated as targeted attacks.

    "No-one was harmed in either incident, but clearly any discharge of a firearm is taken extremely seriously."

    Those arrested remain in custody and the wider public are not believed to be at risk, Det Insp Tillett adds.

    New plans have been unveiled showing how a planned new railway station at Doncaster Sheffield Airport could look.

    The airport wants a stop added to the East Coast Main Line.

    About a million people fly from the airport every year, but it wants to increase that to eight million by 2037.

    A four-year-old boy has been hit by a car on the A64 in Ryedale.

    It happened just before 09:00 this morning in Rillington.

    An air ambulance was called to the scene. The boy's injuries aren't thought to be serious.

  10. Jobless totals up again in Yorkshire and the Humberpublished at 12:04 Greenwich Mean Time 21 March 2018

    There's been another rise in unemployment in Yorkshire and the Humber - up by 5%.

    Latest figures show the number of people out of work in the region increased by 5,000 between November and January and now stands at 136,000.

    Nationally there's been an increase of 24,000 to 1.45m.

    People across East Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire could soon get a train to Doncaster Sheffield Airport.

    That's if plans for a new station at the airport get the go-ahead.

    The airport wants a stop added to the East Coast Mainline.

    A meeting is being held today in which a new masterplan is being unveiled.

    Around 1m people fly from Doncaster Sheffield every year, but the airport wants to increase that to 8m by 2037.

    Dan Fell, chief executive of Doncaster Chamber of Commerce, says if all goes to plan, the station could go from drawing board to reality within five years.

  12. Cracks appear on Scarborough's South Cliff Pathpublished at 11:29 Greenwich Mean Time 21 March 2018

    An investigation is under way into what caused a wall to collapse and a large crack to appear in Scarborough's South Cliff.

    The area's been cordoned off and people who own chalets on the cliff have been told they can't go in to collect their belongings.

    Scarborough Borough Council say the cracked footpath is likely to remain closed for some time.

    Members of the National Education Union are on strike at St Helen's Primary Academy, Monk Bretton saying they have no confidence in the management of the school.

    More than 400 people have signed a petition calling for the Academies Enterprise Trust to given back to the care of the local authority or to another organisation.

    A spokesperson for Academies Enterprise Trust said while there are some concerns - they are not shared by all parents.

    A 30-year-old man has been sent back to prison for over a year after admitting assaulting four prison officers in HMP Moorland, Doncaster in November 2016.

    Robert Preece-Smith, previously from Raleigh Street, Nottingham, has appeared before Sheffield Crown Court and pleaded guilty to two counts of racially aggravated common assault, two counts of common assault, criminal damage and unauthorised possession of an offensive weapon within prison.

    He was jailed for 15 months.

  16. Sharp rise in IVF egg donor usepublished at 10:20 Greenwich Mean Time 21 March 2018

    The number of women using donated eggs has risen sharply in the past 10 years, latest figures show.

    There were 1,912 women who had IVF using a donor egg in 2006, compared to 3,924 in 2016, the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA) said.

    Amanda Mitcheson, 49, from Doncaster, spent £30,000 on IVF, but without success.

    She eventually used an egg donor from the UK and now has a four-year-old son, Max.

    Yesterday, we told you about the estimated £1bn it would cost to fill all of Yorkshire's potholes - 190,000 were filled last year.

    Following that news, we asked you to name the worst stretch of road in Yorkshire.

    Spencer Guest, in Wakefield, said the roads where he lives in Outwood are "a mess" and said he'd counted 30 potholes on just one road in the area.

    Richard Hewit says there are "dozens" along Cliff Road in Holmfirth.

    And Zaiem Hussain, in Rotherham, tells us that Greasbrough Road should win top spot.

    The furniture removal firm of Gration, Garcia and Hudson has started work in Chesterfield this morning...

    It is, of course, the latest day of the BBC Look North Sofa Challenge in aid of Sport Relief, with today's destination for the TV presenting trio being Harthill.

    Yesterday, they faced possibly their toughest challenge yet, walking uphill from Sheffield to Stanage Edge.

    The team will spend almost 12 hours on the road today.

    So far they've raised more than £50,000.

  19. 'I'm nicked': Taxing time for self-ticketing coppublished at 09:20 Greenwich Mean Time 21 March 2018

    A West Yorkshire police officer has accidentally written himself a ticket for driving an untaxed vehicle.

    He gave himself the penalty after incorrectly putting his own details on a form, instead of the owner of the vehicle in question.

    The officer, who has so far remained anonymous, didn't realise what he'd done until he received a letter (pictured above) detailing the offence last week.

    The mistake was revealed on Twitter by the the force's Road Policing Unit (RPU).

    Two people were arrested at the site of tree felling work in Sheffield on Tuesday, police have confirmed.

    A 47-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of racially aggravated harassment and another man, 48, was arrested on suspicion of obstructing the highway on Rivelin Valley Road.

    In a statement, police say: "Due to the peaceful nature of the protests, police resources were withdrawn from the site.

    "However, only a short time later, a breach of the designated safety zone temporarily stopped work, and a number of people were observed gathering on the road.

    "Due to the breach, and safety concerns associated with people standing on a live highway, a number of officers were sent back to the site, until the tree work had completed."
