    Staff at Hull College are calling for the immediate resignation of chief executive Michelle Swithenbank.

    Members of the University and College Union (UCU) at the college today unanimously backed a vote of no confidence in her.

    Yesterday staff voted to strike over plans to cut around a third of the workforce.

    Hull College Group, which runs colleges in Hull, Goole and Harrogate, has begun a restructuring plan to deal with a £10m deficit.

    The union said it expects to announce strike dates in the next few days.

    It's been announced, in a loud and shouty fashion, that town criers from as far afield as Bermuda and Nova Scotia will battle it out in a new competition in Yorkshire this summer.

    The Helmsley Invitational National Town Criers Competition is taking place on 21 July.

    Ed Christopher, who represents the City of Hamilton in Bermuda, and Jim Stewart of New Glasgow in Nova Scotia, have both confirmed they will compete in the event.

    Eighteen town criers from across the UK will also take part.

    An unhealthy lifestyle in your 40s and 50s could contribute to dementia later in life, a health chief in Sheffield has told councillors.

    High blood pressure is a particular danger sign which could trigger dementia in later years, advised Emma Dickinson, commissioning manager at Sheffield Clinical Commissioning Group.

    Her warning came as councillors on the adult social care scrutiny board discussed support for people with dementia in the city.

    A café owner is appealing for work to restore an area of Scarborough damaged by a landslip to start as soon as possible.

    Scarborough Borough Council says there's no quick fix and it could take up to a year to put right.

    The BBC understands the home of an elderly woman is at the centre of a police investigation after reports of an attempted drive-by shooting in Sheffield last night.

    People on Bransby Street in Walkley have told the BBC they heard something sounding like rapid gunfire and the woman's front window was smashed before a car was heard driving away.

    One of Yorkshire's most famous pubs, the now-derelict Saltersgate Inn, is to be knocked down.

    The building on the Pickering to Whitby road, which closed in 2007, was once a smugglers' haunt.

    Built as a farmhouse in 1648, it was converted into an inn in the early 1700s.

    It was known for its peat fire which burned continuously for 200 years until it closed.

    Planners have today approved the pub's demolition.

    A new café will be built in its place.

    South Yorkshire’s fire crews have taken part in a training exercise at Sheffield Arena practicing what they would have to do if a crowd of people were exposed to a chemical.

    Ten fire crews from Parkway, Elm Lane, Central, Rotherham, Birley Moor, Tankersley and Thorne fire stations took part.

    A man suspected of carrying out multiple thefts was arrested by police after a pursuit last night near Harrogate.

    They chased the 30-year-old man, in a grey Jaguar X-Type, through Ripon and onto the A61 after he didn't stop for them.

    The pursuit finally came to an end at 20:20 when officers stopped the car with a stinger.

    He was arrested on suspicion of a number of thefts from vehicles in Harrogate and driving without insurance.

    North Yorkshire Police say the investigation is ongoing and the man remains in custody.

    We are used to seeing him perform mind-blowing tricks on TV, but now Bradford magician Dynamo is trying to help Syrian child refugees.

    Dynamo, whose real name is Steven Frayne, recently spoke about having Crohn's disease, which put his magic on hold.

    He told Newsbeat being out of the spotlight has given him more time to work with refugees.

    A clean-up team in Leeds say they have collected more than 50 bags of rubbish from a roadside this morning.

    They're reminding motorists that throwing rubbish out of your car can lead to a fine of up to £2,500.

    The city council's cleaning team has collected all the rubbish dumped along the A653 Dewsbury Road.

    They say that most of the rubbish was "simply thrown from vehicles".

    The world's most famous steam locomotive, Flying Scotsman, is on its way to Yorkshire on its first passenger journey of 2018.

    It left London just after 08:00.

    The train's due to pull in to Scarborough on a one-way trip at 17:15.

    The journey is the first of a tour being undertaken by the locomotive.

    It comes after The National Railway Museum in York, which owns it, signed a six-year deal with engineering firm Riley & Son (E) Ltd.

    Further tour dates will be added throughout the year.

    A cat who had been missing for two weeks suddenly reappeared after he jumped out of the back of a supermarket lorry in Sheffield.

    Six-year-old Dexter had in fact been on a 60-mile trip from Sheffield to Wakefield and back again in the back of a wagon.

    He was spotted by staff coming out of the lorry at the supermarket in Penistone Road, Hillsborough. The RSPCA were called and they contacted his owner, who lives in Sheffield, after they read his microchip.

    Dexter’s owner, Gaynor, said: “We were starting to think something terrible had happened. It’s amazing he ended up back home and didn’t leap out anywhere else. I can’t believe it."
