    Paul Benson, 47, from Rothwell, was last seen just at about 16:30 on Wednesday near the Corn Exchange in Leeds city centre.

    He was last seen wearing blue jeans and a thin blue jacket.

    Police say they are concerned for his welfare.

    A man who murdered a woman from Bradford in a "savage" attack is due to be sentenced later.

    Ataul Mustafa, 36, from Derby, subjected Sohbia Khan to "domestic violence on a savage scale" at his home before her death in May 2017.

    Mustafa killed Ms Khan less than two years after serving a hospital order for attacking a former partner.

    He was found guilty of murder on Tuesday.

    Today's start line is at Beverley in East Yorkshire.

  9. Woman spared jail over primary school bomb hoaxpublished at 07:55 British Summer Time 3 May 2018

    A woman who made a hoax bomb threat against a South Yorkshire primary school she owed money to has been given a six-month suspended jail sentence.

    Christine Pitter, 52, made two phone calls claiming there was a bomb in the reception area of Woodseats Primary School, in Sheffield, in July 2016.

    Sheffield Magistrates' Court heard the school and two neighbouring shops were evacuated as a result of the threat.

    Pitter, of Brunswick Road, Sheffield, pleaded guilty to the offence.

  10. Warning over fake 'police' scam in Sheffieldpublished at 07:36 British Summer Time 3 May 2018

    Local residents in Sheffield are being urged not to fall for a scam where men posing as police officers knock on people's doors and demand they hand over "counterfeit" cash.

    Earlier this week, the men went to the house of an elderly man Eskdale Road, said they were investigating him for using counterfeit money and showed him a fake ID.

    They told him if he didn't hand over all of his cash he could face arrest.

    Final preparations are under way this morning ahead of the start of the prestigious Tour de Yorkshire 2018 cycle race.

    The men's race - which starts this afternoon - is the first ever four-day Tour de Yorkshire, while the women's race - which starts at about 08:40 this morning - grows from one day to two.

    The riders are set to skirt around the edge of North Yorkshire today as they cover the 113 miles from Beverley in East Yorkshire to Doncaster in South Yorkshire.

    Tour de France boss, Christian Prudhomme, says support for the race in Yorkshire is always remarkable:

    Tomorrow's Stage 2 is from Barnsley to Ilkley, while Saturday's Stage 3 goes from Richmond to Scarborough - and Sunday sees the cyclists race from Halifax to Leeds.

    Voters head to the polls today for council and mayoral elections across Yorkshire and throughout the country.

    Elections are being held in 150 local authorities, spanning metropolitan and district councils, unitary authorities and London boroughs.

    Elections take place across North, South and West Yorkshire and the first ever mayor for the Sheffield City Region will also be chosen.

    Polling stations around England open at 07:00 and close at 22:00.

    Two lifeboat volunteers in Whitby have been suspended after the RNLI launched an investigation into the "production of inappropriate material of a sexual nature".

    The charity said there was also "associated social media activity directed at an RNLI staff member".

    Three other people have also resigned from the North Yorkshire lifeboat station.

    A petition has been launched online to get the volunteers reinstated.

    In a statement, the RNLI said: "We are aware of speculation about the issue on social media but we want to stress that this was not a trivial matter.

    "The lifeboat station should be an environment where people can expect to be treated with dignity and respect."
