    A new dual carriageway from Sheffield to to Micklebring near Braithwell is planned.

    The scheme has been revealed in a presentation by Transport for the North, external, says the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

    It shows a new road running from junction 35a of the M1 and would likely pass near or through northern areas of Rotherham such as Nether Haugh, Rawmarsh, Thrybergh and Ravenfield.

    The road would be an extension to proposals linking Sheffield to Manchester, which include improvements to to A616 Stocksbridge bypass and A628 Woodhead pass along with a tunnel under part of the Pennines.

    Doncaster is the stage finish for the Tour de Yorkshire today, and former soldier Ben Parkinson has been out to cheer on the riders.

    Ben, who is from the town, lost both legs and suffered brain damage in a 2006 landmine blast in Afghanistan.

    He's been described as the most severely-injured soldier to survive the conflict.

    Rather than being hooked up and being in the slow lane of the M1, the caravan for cycling is actually a collection of vehicles which precede the race.

    And sometimes, if you've a decent catch on you, you may be rewarded with a freebie.

    The TdY's caravan has reached Hatfield in South Yorkshire.

    A 68-year-old man has been left with cuts on his face after he was attacked by three teenagers in York last night.

    The boys also broke the man's glasses in the assualt, which police describe as unprovoked.

    It happened on Burton Stone Lane at 22:00 when the man was sitting at a bus stop - he was left with minor cuts to his head and face.

    Officers say they're looking for information about the teenagers who were aged between 14 to 18 years and dressed in dark clothing.

    Police in Whitby want to speak to this woman after "extensive criminal damage" in the seaside town.

    It happened on Raglan Terrace, last month where there was "significant damage" to a car, a motorbike and a property.

    Officers say they want to find the woman as she may have "information critical to the progression of the investigation".

    Medical technology innovations, including one that can predict hip fractures, are on show in Sheffield.

    Other things being demonstrated at the University of Sheffield , externalinclude computer models to help people who have heart disease.

    There's also the development of virtual reality colonoscopies.

    The Insigneo Showcase is an annual event and shows off computer simulations of human physiology to improve diagnosis and treatment.

    Staff at Bradford College could go on strike after union members backed industrial action over plans to cut jobs and change contracts.

    Members of the University and College union (UCU) voted 88% in favour of the move.

    The UCU says the threat of strike action "should focus the college on working with the union" to find an end to the dispute.

    The union claims that Bradford College plans to cut 75 jobs as part of an effort to tackle a funding deficit.

    The BBC has tried to contact the college for comment.

    Police have arrested two people in a raid on a house in Sheffield.

    Officers say they recovered a large quantity of drugs in the operation on Rushdale Road in Meersbrook yesterday.

    A 37-year-old woman and 42-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance with intent to supply.

    They've now been released under investigation.

    A man who has never been without his wedding ring since marrying 43 years ago has been robbed of it.

    The 74-year-old was threatened with a knife on High Street in Mexborough and forced to take money from a cash point. The thief also demanded he hand over his wedding ring.

  12. Royal invite for Yorkshire Air Ambulance volunteerpublished at 14:30 British Summer Time 3 May 2018

    A Harrogate man has been invited to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding at Windsor Castle.

    Mike Bevington thought it was a mistake when he got the letter to say he was one of 1,200 members of the public being invited to the grounds of the Castle to join in the celebrations.

    The 80-year-old was nominated by the Yorkshire Air Ambulance where he has been a volunteer for the last 10 years.

    1,200 members of the public have been invited to the grounds of Windsor Castle for the wedding on 19 May. Mike and his wife Cathy will join other charity workers, schoolchildren, Royal Household members and Windsor residents.

    The Lord Lieutenant of North Yorkshire, Barry Dodd, says 'Mike is a real unsung hero and an outstanding volunteer'.

    He also says 'he is an inspiration to any retired person who would like to give their time to a charity of their choice.'

    Two boys plotted to kill fellow pupils and teachers after becoming obsessed with a school shooting in the US, a court heard.

    Prosecutors allege the pair "hero-worshipped" two students who killed 12 pupils and a teacher at Columbine High School in Colorado in 1999.

    The two, both 15, deny conspiracy to murder and other offences.

    They were aged 14 when they allegedly planned the school attack in Northallerton, Leeds Crown Court heard.

    People are urging people to report any sightings of a teenager from Sheffield who has been missing since the weekend.

    Levi Hampsey, 16, was last seen when he left his mother's house in Meadowhead on Sunday.

    Police say he often visits the Batemoor and Lowedges areas of the city.

    Anyone with information about the teenager's whereabouts is being asked to contact police.

    A biker has been left with serious injuries after a crash last night in Huddersfield.

    It happened just after 23:10 on Long Lane when a Vauxhall Astra crashed with a Suzuki motorbike close to the junction with Longfield Avenue.

    The 28-year-old rider of the bike suffered serious injuries and was taken to Leeds General Infirmary for treatment.

    Police want any witnesses to come forward.
