    Police in York say they're hunting a serial tyre slasher after six cars were targeted over the weekend.

    North Yorkshire Police say they have stepped-up their patrols in Haxby after the attacks on Saturday night into Sunday morning.

    Officers say it will cost the owners of the cars hundreds of pounds to put right and they think the incidents are linked.

    They are now trawling pictures from CCTV cameras to try and find the person responsible.

  2. Tour de Yorkshire: Final countdownpublished at 17:38 British Summer Time 30 April 2018

    The final countdown has started for this year's Tour de Yorkshire which starts on Thursday.

    Organisers say some of the biggest names in cycling will be tackling the course.

    Villages and towns have been getting ready.

    Day one starts in Beverley and winds its way 180 km to Doncaster.

    Day two starts in Barnsley and ends in Ilkely.

    It's Richmond for the start of day three, finishing in Scarborough.

    Chasing a target of 321, with nine wickets left, Yorkshire lost Cheteshwar Pujara to the day's first ball.

    Adam Lyth (34) and skipper Gary Ballance (19) soon followed as the visitors slumped to 81-4.

    Leaning hit eight fours and he was last to go as they were all out for 202, with Craig Overton taking 3-41.

    A man has been rescued from a building site in Sheffield after he was hit on the head by a falling brick.

    The man, who is in his 50s, had to be rescued by firefighters from scaffolding on Rockingham Street at about 10:30 this morning.

    The man was suffering from neck and shoulder pain and had to bought down by South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue's turntable ladders

    Her was was taken to hospital.

    Police are searching for a Huddersfield man who could be "travelling by foot or public transport".

    Carl Holdsworth, 54, was last seen in the Clayton Heights area of Bradford at around 08:30 yesterday.

    When he was last seen he was wearing blue jeans, a blue top and a cream jacket and was clean shaven.

    West Yorkshire Police say he can't drive so would be travelling by foot or public transport.

    Police in Leeds want to speak to this man after a cyclist rode past an elderly woman and stole her handbag.

    The 82-year-old woman was walking along Hollyshaw Lane in Crossgates last month.

    A man on a bike rode past her and snatched her handbag.

    Detectives investigating what happened say they want to find out more about the man in the above picture and that if anyone recognises him they should call 101.

    At the age of eighteen, a motorbike crash cost him his right arm, but in his own words, he walked out of that hospital a new person. Steven Robinson suffered from a fear of flying but is now a qualified pilot. Horses scared the life out of him, but now he's also a dressage competitor. Steven was named Yorkshire's Inspirational Individual of the Year and made the New Year's Honours List 2018.

  14. Swan shot with crossbow in 'sickening' attackpublished at 15:36 British Summer Time 30 April 2018

    A Yorkshire swan sanctuary says it has come to the rescue of a swan which was shot with a crossbow.

    The badly injured bird was rescued on Sunday morning from the Silverwood Colliery Nature Reserve near Rotherham, by Yorkshire Swan Rescue volunteers.

    It's not clear when the bird was attacked, but the female swan was observed for a number of days showing little interest in feeding and eventually abandoning a nest full of eggs.

    The swan was hit by a 14-inch bolt fired from a crossbow and South Yorkshire Police are now investigating.

  15. Police recreated house smash as driver jailed for five yearspublished at 15:23 British Summer Time 30 April 2018

    Police have released more details of how they investigated a crash in York, in which a car crashed into a house leaving one man with life-changing injuries.

    The driver of the car has been jailed for five years today.

    Labourer James Sparham, 29 of Geldof Road, Huntington (pictured below) was sentenced after pleading guilty to three counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and criminal damage.

    North Yorkshire Police began to carry out extensive forensic tests to find out what happened, they found that Mr Sparham didn't try to avoid the crash or that there were any faults with his car.

    Officers also recreated the crash and discovered the car shouldn't even have lost control, but in police interviews Mr Sparham made "largely made no comment."

    The 15-year-old was last seen wearing a black top, blue denim jeans, a jacket and black boots.

  17. 30 fans due in court over violence at Mariners' gamepublished at 15:16 British Summer Time 30 April 2018

    Thirty football fans are expected to be dealt with at Hull Crown Court this week following violent behaviour at a football match almost two years ago.

    The men were involved in disordely conduct following a Grimsby Town match against Sheffield United in July 2016.

    The court hearings involve supporters of both teams and will be taking place during the week.

    The driver of a car that crashed into the front room of a family home in York has been jailed for five years today.

    James Sparham, 29 of Geldof Road, Huntington was driving a 300hp Volkswagen Golf R on Morehall Close on 3 Septemnber last year when he crashed into the house.

    His car burst into flames after smashing into the house, seriously injuring a man in his 50s - injuries that have changed his life.

    Three people were in the house at the time of the crash, ther man's child and wife managed to escape uninjured.

    Two passengers in the car – a woman in her 30s and a man in his 20s – were left with broken bones and cuts.

    Sparham was sentenced at York Crown Court after he pleaded guilty to three counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and criminal damage.

  19. Boy, 11, grabbed by man in Leeds streetpublished at 14:55 British Summer Time 30 April 2018

    An 11-year-old boy has been grabbed by a man in Leeds - the second similar kind of incident in under a week, but police say they don't think they're linked.

    The boy had been playing with a friend near a block of garages in Broom Nook, Belle Isle, at about 17:45 yesterday, he was left on his own when his friend went off to the shop.

    A man came up to the boy from behind and grabbed him by the shoulder, he pulled away but the man grabbed him again.

    Luckily a passer-by saw what was happening and shouted at the man, who then ran off, the boy went home and called the police.

    Officers say they're looking for a tall and skinny man who was wearing a black jacket with the hood up, grey tracksuit bottoms and gloves.

    Last week a four-year-old was picked up and carried across a road by a man in Beeston. West Yorkshire Police say the're "treating both as separate incidents.”
