    A teenager accused of planning a Columbine-style mass shooting at a school in North Yorkshire said he would be performing a "service to society", a trial heard.

    Two 15-year-old boys deny conspiracy to murder over the alleged plot at a school in Northallerton last year.

    A teacher told Leeds Crown Court the younger of the boys told him potential targets were "infecting the gene pool".

    He said it was "the most dreadful thing a student had ever said" to him.

    The boys have each also pleaded not guilty to intentionally encouraging or assisting an offence and a charge of encouraging or assisting an offence believing it would be committed.

    The older boy denies aggravated burglary, as well as unlawful wounding.

    The trial continues.

    Have you seen Paul Parkin? He's been missing from Rotherham since yesterday afternoon and police are concerned for his welfare.

    Mr Parkin, 49, was last seen leaving Rotherham Hospital, on Moorgate Road, at about 15:10 yesterday.

    He's thought to have got on the number 29 bus, heading towards the town centre, but hasn't been seen or heard from since.

    He's described as of slim build and is thought to be wearing blue jeans, blue Nike trainers, a cream fleece and a brown leather jacket.

    Anyone with information about his whereabouts is being asked to get in touch with police.

    A community opera staged in response to the 2015 Boxing Day floods in West Yorkshire has won a top music award.

    Calderland, which was billed as a folk opera to "celebrate the Calder Valley's tempestuous relationship with water", was staged in Halifax last year.

    The cast included a community choir of more than 150 local people, including children from four schools.

    It has won the learning and participation prize at the Royal Philharmonic Society Music Awards in London.

    A teenager has been mugged at knifepoint in an area of Huddersfield.

    The 16-year-old was walking on Tanyard Road in Oakes on Tuesday afternoon, when three men came up to him.

    One of them threatened him with a knife and they fled with his bag and phone.

    Police say they're trying to find a woman who pulled up at the side of the road as he was being robbed and told the trio to stop.

    Ryedale School, external transformed their playing field, but it didn't end up on TV because the helicopter taking images form above had to refuel.

    A 29-year-old man was shot in his leg on Chadwick Road at about 11:00 on Tuesday morning.

    Officers have arrested a 34 year-old man, from Sheffield on suspicion of wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm.

    Teachers told a jury at Leeds Crown Court how the plot had been uncovered after one of the accused had messaged a fellow pupil in September to tell her he and his co-accused would "shoot up" the school.

    The court heard how the older of the two defendants, both of whom were 14 at the time, made "denials about the allegation" that the plan was real.

    Police haven't been able to find any evidence of gunshots being fired or reports of any injuries after reports of an argument between two groups of men in Leeds yesterday.

    It happened on Servia Hill in Woodhouse at about 17:00 and witnesses reported seeing a gun and hearing loud bangs.

    West Yorkshire Police say some of the men involved left in a dark blue fiat and aren't linking it to the shooting near Leeds city centre last night.

    Three Cockapoo puppies, who were described as "very scared" and in a "terrible physical state", have been found dumped in Wetherby.

    The pups, two females and a male, have been called Olive, Emmy and Gus.

    They were found by a passerby on Deerstone Ridge on Sunday morning.

    He alerted the RSPCA and the pups are now being cared for at their animal centre in South Yorkshire.

    Vets said the pups, thought to be about eight-weeks-old, would have a long road to recovery ahead of them.

    It's now going to travel around the UK, as part of the 60th birthday celebrations of Blue Peter.
