A man was shot last night as he sat in a car in Leeds in a targeted attack, police said.
The 23-year-old man was in a BMW at traffic lights on Burmantofts Street, near to the A64 flyover, when a silver Mazda 3 cut through traffic and pulled alongside.
Three masked men got out, two of them carrying machetes or bats, and attacked the BMW.
One of them pulled out a handgun and shot at the driver of the car before the three men fled.
The 23-year-old man was taken to hospital with a gunshot wound to his shoulder, but his injuries were minor.
West Yorkshire Police said the injured man had been arrested on suspicion of possession of firearm with intent to cause fear of violence and is currently in custody.
A police cordon remains in place and has caused significant traffic delays in Leeds today.

Barnsley Council has responded to market traders' anger over its latest bid to make the town smoke-free by 2025.
The council wants to drop market traders at the new Glass Works (pictured) who sell smoking-related items such as papers, lighters and flints.
Matthew Gladstone, Executive Director for Place, said the primary aim of The Glass Works is to create a safe and welcoming family-friendly destination.
Quote MessageWe believe this commitment is an important step to realising that ambition. More than one in five adults in Barnsley smoke and smoking costs the Barnsley economy £78.2m per year - or £1,862 per smoker - and tobacco use remains the single largest cause of health inequalities, avoidable disease and premature death as well as contributing to family and child poverty."

There've been major delays to traffic in Leeds city centre this morning after a police cordon was set up by police following an incident which it's believed happened overnight.
I've been out to the scene where the blue tape fluttering in the wind is across Burmantofts Road, which leads to Beckett Street and St James’s Hospital.
A second tape cordon across the road is in place a short distance further along and the road is empty of vehicles.
Police officers stand guard over the stretch of road as parents and children are guided into the nearby school.
Staff and patients hoping to reach the hospital on foot are being guided into the school grounds and told they can reach St James’s that way.
All traffic for Beckett Street is being diverted onto the raised carriageway of the A64(M) and there are large queues of vehicles caused by the closure.
As as result, the occasional blast of a horn can be heard as tempers fray in the traffic queue.
One of Doncaster’s best known music shops has shut its doors and is no longer trading.
A generation of musicians has bought instruments and gear from the Electro Music shop on Copley Road since it opened in 1982.
But now the shutters are down and there's a sign on the door and on the company's website saying it's ceased trading.
The company's website, external thanks anyone who has bought anything from the shop in the past and provides contact information for the liquidator and future guitar repairs.
News of the closure has been met with dismay from people who have bought equipment and instruments there, including BBC Radio Leeds presenter Stephanie Hirst:

These are the latest pictures from near the scene of an incident in Leeds city centre this morning.
A police cordon's been set near Beckett Street, but we have no more details at present as to what's happened.
There've been major delays in the city centre as result of the road closure:
The mum of a Sheffield Hallam University student who died after taking MDMA while out celebrating the end of her studies is warning parents to get wise to the risks their children face.
Joana Burns, 22, collapsed at the Tuesday Club at Sheffield University Students' Union on 6 June last year.
A coroner yesterday recorded a verdict of death by misadventure.
Joana's mum, Mosca, says parents need to be aware:
Huddersfield Town fans were celebrating into the night yesterday after the Terriers secured a second season in the Premier League.
A battling draw at Stamford Bridge damaged Chelsea's hopes of playing in next season's Champions League and left Swansea City on the brink of relegation.
Here are just a few reminders of last night's triumphant scenes:
If you're heading into Leeds city centre this morning, be aware that there are major delays on the roads.
No more information about the incident from the police as yet:
