    The trial of two boys accused of plotting a Columbine-style attack at a school in North Yorkshire is due to continue later.

    This will be the trial's third day at Leeds Crown Court and will see the prosecution continue to outline its case.

    The boys, both aged 15, are accused of planning to target a school in Northallerton.

    Both defendants deny a joint charge of conspiracy to murder between 31 December 2016 and 29 October last year.

    They also deny a charge of intentionally encouraging or assisting an offence and a charge of encouraging or assisting an offence believing it would be committed.

    One of the boys is also charged with the unlawful wounding of a teenage girl and another of aggravated burglary, which he denies.

    Yorkshire looks set to host one another of the world's top bike races following the success of this year's Tour de Yorkshire.

    The Vuelta a Espana could come to the county after the Sir Gary Verity, from Welcome to Yorkshire, confirmed: "They want to do it, we want to do it."

    The race is primarily held in Spain but passes through nearby countries.

    The three-week Grand Tour race was won by Britain's Chris Froome in 2017.

    Yorkshire hosted the Tour de France's Grand Depart in 2014 and is set to stage the 2019 World Championships.

    Bin workers in Kirklees, West Yorkshire, could go on strike after claims of bullying and harassment - with a decision on industrial action due later.

    Public sector union Unison called a ballot after hearing about issues in the workplace, including claims that workers are not being allowed to take holidays.

    Paul Holmes, Kirklees Unison branch secretary, says members "don't want to be out", but he warns they're prepared to strike "longer than management can last".

    Kirklees Council says it's set up a review into the service which it hopes could avoid industrial action.

    About 15,000 members of Sheffield Credit Union have had their data illegally accessed in a cyber attack, it's been revealed.

    Members' personal data, such as addresses, National Insurance numbers, bank account numbers and sort codes, were stolen in February, it's emerged.

    The credit union, which offers saving and loan services, has stressed that members' money is safe, but people are being urged to check for fraudulent activity or signs of identity theft.

    Police have confirmed they're investigating the hack and have advised people to contact Action Fraud if they have concerns.

    Stronger strains of cannabis are entering the market in North Yorkshire, according to a University of York academic.

    Demand from users for a higher potency drug - commonly known as "skunk" - has lead people to grow super-strength strains.

    The findings come as one of the county's drug support charities, Red Rose Recovery, has launched a campaign warning cannabis users to be aware of the risks attached to more potent types of the drug.

    More than two million spectators turned out to watch four days of cycling in the 2018 Tour de Yorkshire at the weekend.

    The event started in Beverley in East Yorkshire on Thursday, with people lining the streets as it snaked around the region.

    The race, extended to a fourth day for the first time, reached a dramatic conclusion in Leeds on Sunday with Stephane Rossetto claiming victory in the final stage.

    Greg van Avermaet won the overall men's race and Megan Guarnier won the women's race, contested over two days.

  11. Police chase in Barnsley: Man found injured in streetpublished at 06:00

    A man found with life-threatening injuries on a road in Barnsley is thought to have been hit by a car that had been involved in a police chase.

    The 25-year-old was found on Wood Street, Barnsley, late on Sunday night.

    Officers had started to follow a black Audi that failed to stop on Park Road at about 23:30, South Yorkshire Police said.

    The injured man was found during a search of the area following the pursuit, said the force.

    Police are appealing for information and witnesses.
