    Plans by two teenagers to carry out a shooting attack on a school amounted to "real-life intent" rather than "childish fantasy", a court has been told.

    The 15-year-old boys are on trial at Leeds Crown Court accused of plotting to murder pupils and teachers in Northallerton, North Yorkshire.

    Prosecutor Paul Greaney QC claimed the elder boy had been inspired by the Columbine school massacre.

    The pair deny conspiracy to murder.

    They also deny alternative charges of intentionally encouraging or assisting an offence and encouraging or assisting an offence believing it would be committed.

    It's awards day at the Chelsea Flower Show and gardeners from across Yorkshire have their (green?) fingers crossed as the judges make their way round the displays.

    One of the gardens, by tourist organisation Welcome to Yorkshire, has been inspired by the Yorkshire Dales - complete with sheep, a brass band and Wensleydale cheese.

    The Queen and the Prime Minister visited the garden yesterday and we'll find out soon whether it's won one of the flower show's coveted medals.

    A lottery winner from Sheffield who gave away more than £6m of her winnings has died, her family has confirmed.

    Barbara Wragg, 77, and her husband Ray, won £7.6m on the National Lottery in 2000.

    The couple hit the national headlines when they gave £6m of their winnings to charity - particularly to Sheffield hospitals.

    Mrs Wragg is understood to have died from sepsis following complications from surgery.

    The first anniversary of the Manchester Arena suicide bombing will be marked today with a remembrance service for those who were killed.

    A total of 22 people died and hundreds were injured when Salman Abedi detonated a bomb at the end of an Ariana Grande concert on 22 May 2017.

    At the service, Alex Klis, 20, from York, and her younger sister, will remember their parents, Angelika and Marcin, who had been waiting to collect their daughters when the blast happened.

    A World War One aircraft has left North Yorkshire and is on its way to France - but on the back of a lorry rather on its own wings.

    The Avro 504, from the Yorkshire Air Museum at Elvington, near York, will be displayed in the centre of Paris.

    It's the first time that any museum has been allowed to exhibit in the Les Invalides courtyard, which was built by Louis 14th and is home to Napoleon's tomb.

    The 504 first flew in 1913 and was involved in the opening phases of World War One.

    A woman has been seriously sexually assaulted in broad daylight in Todmorden.

    Police say they're still looking for the man who did it after it happened on 3 April at midday on Burnley Road in the town.

    A 29-year-old woman was approached the man outside Kamran's newsagents and was then sexually assaulted in an alleyway.

    Officers say they're looking for a white man, aged in his late 40s to early 50s, with “scruffy” dark brown hair and had his face covered with a scarf.

    The eyes of the world were on a certain wedding over the weekend and Chris and Mandy Cook thought they were going to miss the nuptials for their daughter's birthday party on Saturday.

    However when they arrived they were shocked to find out that in fact their daughter Hayley was getting married and the surprise was over a year in the making:

    Police in Leeds want to speak to these two men after a brawl left a man needing surgery on his skull.

    It happened in one of the city's most popular nightspots in the early hours of Friday morning when a fight broke out between two groups of men and flared up into a fight.

    A 28-year-old man tried to break the fight up at the Neighbourhood bar on Greek Street at about 02:30, but he was knocked to the floor.

    He was then stamped and kicked and was left with a fractured skull, broken ribs and a chipped tooth. He needed surgery for his injuries.

    A 49-year-old man from Filey was also hit in the face with a glass and needed stitches. Police say they have made "a number of arrests" over the fight.

    Unwrapped, located in the Crookes area of the city, opened earlier this month.

    A Welcome Centre has opened its doors for the first time at a Teesside prison

    HMP Kirklevington Grange, is a Category D men's and young offenders' open prison, which is primarily for those intending to settle on release in the North East.

    The centre aims to make families, some of whom may have had to travel may miles to visit their loved ones, feel safe and comfortable and offers advice and information.

    It also gives men due for release an opportunity to put into practice training they had received around roles in the hospitality and service sectors.
