    The George Wright Building, external in Rotherham town centre is tucked away behind the High Street on The Crofts and soon will be transformed into a boutique hotel.

    It was built in the early 19th century and as you can see it is in the Tudor Revival style:

    More on the three West Yorkshire men who have admitted selling potentially lethal drugs over the internet.

    Leeds Crown Court heard the gang mixed the drugs with bulking agents and posted them to customers throughout the UK, as well as to the US, Canada, Australia, Argentina and Singapore.

    Between December 2016 and April 2017 their business turned over £163,000 in cash, the National Crime Agency said.

    A 15-year-old boy has appeared at Sheffield Crown Court charged with murdering another teenager.

    He's accused of killing Samuel Baker, who was also 15, who died on Thursday night in the Lowedges area from stab wounds.

    The boy has been remanded in custody until 12 June.

    A new campaign designed to save hundreds of lives every year is being launched across parts of North Yorkshire today.

    Vale of York's Healthy Hearts, external aims to cut deaths from heart disease by 10% over the next five years.

    The initiative will see GPs, nurses, hospital specialists and pharmacists working together to reduce cases of heart attack and stroke.

    As part of the programme, GPs are prescribing a more effective statin which reduces cholesterol for people with established cardiovascular disease, the group said.

    It also plans to review patients who have been diagnosed with atrial fibrillation, a heart condition which causes an irregular and often abnormally fast heart rate, to ensure their coagulation medicines are well-managed and maintained.

    It is also working to help detect people with high blood pressure and help them manage it more effectively.

    A hit musical which has its roots in Sheffield and which quickly set tongues wagging and box office tills ringing is to take on new life on the big screen.

    Everybody's Talking About Jamie began life at Sheffield Theatres, external and was inspired by a teenage boy's true story about wanting to wear a dress to school.

    The production went on to win best musical production at the UK Theatre Awards, with its star John McCrea named best musical performer.

    Now, Warp Films, based in Sheffield, who were behind the hit This is England, intend to try and capture the stage musical's magic on film.

    Three men from West Yorkshire have pleaded guilty at Leeds Crown Court of running a "dark web" operation to sell the potentially lethal drug fentanyl across the globe.

    Jake Levene, 22, of Turner Close, Wakefield, Lee Childs, 45, of Bedale Court, Morley, and Mandy Christopher Lowther, 21, of Cottingley Springs, Morley, pictured above left to right, all admitted selling the prescription painkiller.

    Fentanyl has killed more than 120 people in the UK since 2016 and police say they saw "a spike in deaths" from the drug while the three were selling it.

    The men mixed and exported the drug, which is up to 100 times stronger than morphine, from an industrial unit in Peel Street, Morley, Leeds.

    They are due to be sentenced at Leeds Crown Court on 7 September.

    Two parents who've been found guilty at Leeds Crown Court of luring their daughter to Bangladesh to force her to marry her cousin have also been convicted of using violence, threats or coercion to force her into marriage.

    The 19-year-old was lured on a sham holiday on 3 July 2016 to force her to marry her cousin, jurors heard during the trial.

    The couple are due to be be sentenced at Leeds Crown Court on 18 June.

    Judge Simon Phillips QC said: "I am mindful of the victim in this case, and that she should be given the opportunity to provide a victim impact statement."

    Three members of staff have been suspended following the discovery of three "unsecured air rifles" at the Minster School in York, external.

    The Chapter of York, external, the fee-paying cathedral school's governing body, says it has written to parents to reassure them that "no child was at risk and no child has been harmed by this situation."

    They say "the priority in the coming weeks will be to ensure continuity of education and care for the children."

    The Minster School, founded to educate choristers, is an an independent, day preparatory school for children aged 3-13 years.

    The three members of staff will remain suspended pending a full investigation, the Chapter said.

  17. Mining firm predicts '50 years of benefits'published at 12:19 British Summer Time 29 May 2018

    The company behind a new potash mine is predicting at least 50 years of benefits to Teesside and North Yorkshire.

    Sirius Minerals has released an independent report which says its fertiliser mining project will permanently add up to 18% to the economic output of the Tees Valley.

    About 1,000 jobs are being created via the £3.2bn project and construction work has begun on the Woodsmith Mine near Whitby, North Yorkshire.

    The term "potash" is used to describe a range of minerals containing potassium, with the company mining polyhalite.

    A pub company is fighting back against opposition to plans to use part of a park as a beer garden, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

    True North Brew Company said before it had even submitted plans, to use a small piece of land at the side of Waggon and Horses at Millhouses, a petition opposed to the idea had attracted 1,700 signatures.

    The company said it had launched its own petition calling on the council to support the plans and had attracted 700 supporters in just five days.
