Sheffield City Council is introducing a new city-wide traffic regulation order on pavement parking.

However, the council has stressed that people who need to park slightly on the pavement outside their home will not be penalised.

Parking wardens have already been pinpointing hot-spots to the council and when the scheme is rolled out in the new few weeks local residents will also be able to report problem areas.

    Quote Message

I saw some awful parking outside a school in Millhouses that made my blood boil. There was a great big 4×4 which had pulled onto the pavement on a corner by the school. It stopped other drivers from being able to see around the corner and prevented people from being able to get past on the pavement."

She received the Inspiration Award for her work on a programme to educate young drivers.

The "extra heavy" saplings replaced the mature trees removed by Amey under the Streets Ahead contract but - 330 trees have either been vandalised or withered.

Since 2012, about 5,640 of the saplings have been planted.

The council, which is planting new trees after removing existing ones, insists the trees earmarked for felling are either "dangerous, dead, diseased, dying, damaging or discriminatory".

However, campaigners dispute this and say many of the trees could and should be saved.

They want amendments made to the surrounding pavements and roads instead.
