    Hull-based bus company East Yorkshire Motor Services has been taken over.

    One of the north's largest bus operators, Go North East, has bought EYMS and its subsidiary Scarborough and District.

    EYMS transports over 17 million passengers annually and has a workforce of 700 staff.

    It runs over 300 buses and coaches throughout Hull, the East Riding of Yorkshire and North Yorkshire.

    Virgin Money has agreed to a takeover, external offer from CYBG, the owner of Clydesdale and Yorkshire Bank - the new company is likely to operate under the Virgin brand.

    Under the terms of the offer, Virgin Money shareholders will be handed 1.2125 new CYBG shares in exchange for each of their shares. That values Virgin Money shares at 371p each and the business at £1.7billion.

    David Duffy, chief executive of CYBG told the BBC: "Our goal is to move to the Virgin Money brand over time."

    Fire crews who tackled a huge blaze near Rotherham have released these incredible pictures:

    Firefighters used specialist vehicles including detection and monitoring equipment, a high volume pump and a turntable ladder at the fire at a recycling plant in Kilnhurst, near Rotherham.

    Public Health England have warned motorists to "keep vehicle windows closed, turn off air conditioning and keep air vents closed."

    Crews remained at the scene overnight and people living nearby have been told to keep their doors and windows closed.

    The fire service say they have "requested additional air monitoring" in the area.

    They say two fire engines are currently on site damping down.

    Police are launching a new appeal to find the person who ordered the murder of a Leeds teenager.

    Raheem Wilks, 19, was shot outside Too Sharps barbers in Harehills, Leeds, on 26 January.

    Jaydn Manners, 24, Keal Richards, 21, and Tremaine Wisdom, 29, (pictured) were found guilty of his murder following a trial at Leeds Crown Court.

    All three were jailed for a minimum of 33 years.

    Today officers will appear on BBC Crimewatch's Roadshow Live asking for more information on Raheem's death.

    Rail bosses are going to be questioned later about the problems Yorkshire commuters have faced over the last few weeks.

    Northern and Network Rail managers will face MPs in the Transport Select Committee today.

    It comes after a new timetable was brought in last month leading to widespread delays and cancellations across the North.

    Public Health England have issued a warning to motorists this morning following a fire at a recycling plant.

    About 60 firefighters dealt with the blaze at Kilnhurst, near Rotherham, at its height on Sunday.

    About 25 firefighters remain at the scene and police have put road closures in place.

    Public Health England said: "Any smoke is an irritant, and can make people’s eyes and throat sore.

    "People with asthma and other respiratory conditions may be particularly susceptible and should use their medication as usual.

    "Motorists should keep vehicle windows closed, turn off air conditioning and keep air vents closed."

    The fire service have requested additional air monitoring in the area.

    There are long traffic delays in Leeds city centre at the moment after a burst water main closed major routes in and out of the city.

    The Armley Gyratory, the inner ring road, the M621 and Kirkstall Road are all experiencing problems.

    Motorists are being advised to avoid the area and find alternative routes if possible.

  10. Boy gets stuck rescuing catpublished at 08:01 British Summer Time 18 June 2018

    A young boy who attempted to rescue his pet cat from a tree had to be saved by fire crews after getting stuck himself.

    North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said it happened in the centre of York on Friday night.

    Fire crews rescued both the boy and his pet using a 13.5 metre (44ft) high ladder.

    A spokesperson for the service said the boy was given some advice about the danger he faced by climbing the tree.

    About 25 firefighters remain at the scene a huge fire which broke out at a recycling plant in Kilnhurst, near Rotherham, yesterday.

    A number of explosions could be heard and thick black smoke from the fire could be seen for miles around.

    Police have put road closures in place and people living nearby were told to keep windows and doors closed overnight.

    No injuries have been reported.

    Organisers of a folk festival have withdrawn support for the RNLI after two lifeboat volunteers were sacked for "making pornographic images".

    In May Joe Winspear and Ben Laws were suspended for producing graphic sexual images of colleagues on mugs, which they said was "a light-hearted joke".

    The pair failed in a bid to appeal the decision last week.

    Jim Foster, an organiser of the Robin Hood's Bay Folk Weekend, said the men had been treated unfairly.

    He said the step was taken to withdraw support for the Whitby RNLI - which serves the area - after "an outcry by most of the singers and musicians" involved.

    Police are warning of "significant" disruption to traffic in Leeds after a burst water main forced the Armley Gyratory to be closed.

    Fire and police crews are at the scene of the burst, which is behind Armley prison on Canal Street.

    Police have advised motorists to avoid the area and find alternative routes if possible.

    Yorkshire Water have warned customers in the area they may experience "no water or low pressure," and have apologised for any inconvenience.

    An inquiry is continuing today into the death's of a father and son from Leeds who died on Saturday.

    Martin Andrews, 43, and 19-year-old Jack Andrews are believed to have been trawling the bottom of a canal with a magnet to find metal objects in the water when they died.

    West Yorkshire Police said their bodies were recovered on Saturday night after an extensive search in the Cooper Bridge area of Huddersfield.

    The force said it was not treating the deaths as suspicious.

    A police spokesman said the alarm was raised by a passer-by who noticed personal belongings, including clothing, a mobile phone, a camera and car keys, were on the waterside for almost an hour.

    Investigations are under way into the cause of another massive fire at a recycling centre near Rotherham.
